It’s been a tough off-season as we didn’t get a good look at many guys due to various factors, but While the top has remained relatively the same with some small shifts, several other players have moved up and down the rankings. . Here’s a look at the brand new Top Five before we head into the start of the season in 2022.
#1 – Lamar Washington Lamar Washington 6'4" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #128 Nation AZ (2022 Jefferson)
Key 2019-20 Statistics: 14.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, 2.3 spg
There were a lot of changes we considered in the updated Class of 2022 rankings but one thing was absolutely rock-solid – Washington stayed at number one. In fact, the 6-foot-4 junior distanced himself from the rest of the field with the way he re-shaped his body while further refining his game as a point guard. Washington is starting to garner a national reputation while picking up scholarship offers this off-season while playing with the Oregon Prospects and now the US Basketball Academy, and recently posted a jaw-dropping 40 points in The Grind Session.
#2 – Samaje Morgan Samaje Morgan 5'9" | PG Churchill | 2022 State OR (2022 Churchill)
Key 2019-20 Statistics: 9.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 4.4 apg, 3.1 spg
Morgan makes the slight move up to #2 based on his play this summer with Elite 24 in a couple of travel events. The 5-foot-9 point guard once again demonstrated his incredible quickness both with the ball and defensively, and at times during these tournaments simply took over games on both ends of the floor. Morgan is a pure point guard and he’s continually gaining more confidence in his outside jumper.
#3 – Luke Johnson Luke Johnson 6'8" | PF Central Catholic | 2022 WV (2022 Central Catholic)
Key 2019-20 Statistics: 11.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg
Johnson drops just slightly to number three but it’s more about Morgan’s play than the long junior from Central Catholic. The 6-foot-8 forward has played solidly with the Oregon Prospects, serving as a rim runner as well as pounding the offensive glass in the halfcourt set. Johnson has a smooth face-up jumper and really competes on the defensive end. The question remains will hoops be his emphasis in college or will he pursue football more.
#4 – Dallon Morgan Dallon Morgan 6'9" | PF Sprague | 2022 State OR (2022 Sprague)
Key 2019-20 Statistics: 12.2 ppg, 6.4 rpg, .564 fg%
Morgan stays in the number four slot. The mobile 6-foot-10 big man hasn’t played as much this off-season as the rest of top players in the class but with Sprague fielding a club team during the winter months he’ll be out on the court more. Morgan can hit shots from the perimeter and starting to get more aggressive with his post game. He continues to hold an offer from Montana State and some schools on the East Coast have shown interest.
#5 – Devon Malcolm Devon Malcolm 6'4" | SF South Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 Butte Falls)
Key 2019-20 Statistics: 23 ppg, 11 rpg, 3.9 spg, 2.2 bpg
Malcolm continues to round out the top five as more and more people are getting aware of the hyper-athletic performer from down south. The 6-foot-4 swingman plays above the rim and does so with power and his perimeter skills are continuing to develop as he plays against bigger competition with A-Train Oregon. Malcolm earned his first scholarship offer from the University of Portland and more will come as coaches become aware of him.
