Wyoming who finished undefeated in the CHL, fell in the District Finals, but more importantly Deer Park saw their season end in the Regional Finals. The upcoming season looks tough as a lot of experience is gone with graduation and transfers. Take a look below at the CHL for the upcoming season and what to expect.
Isaiah Walker Isaiah Walker 6'5" | SG Wyoming | 2021 State OH (2021)- Wyoming- Last season’s leading scoring in the CHL. Put up 25 points per game and will likely replicate those numbers in 2021. Committed to Belmont University.
Danny Austing Danny Austing 6'0" | SG Taylor | 2022 State OH (2022)- Taylor- The lone junior on the preseason list. Led Taylor in scoring with 15 points per game and was 5th in the CHL in steals. One of the better two-way players you’ll find in this league.
Wyatt Wachs (2021)- Indian Hill- 5th in scoring and 4th in rebounds in the CHL. Backcourt leader for an experienced Indian Hill group.
Max Megowen (2021)- Mariemont- 6’3 Forward led Mariemont in scoring and rebounding a season ago. One of the more under-the-radar prospects in the league.
Damien Crayton Damien Crayton 6'0" | PG Wyoming | 2021 State OH (2021)- Wyoming- Talented two way player for Wyoming; forms solid 1-2 backcourt punch with Walker. 3rd in assists and 4th in steals last year. Shot 59% from the floor.
One Sleeper to Watch: KeAndre Kendall (2022) Reading- Transfer impressed over the Summer and joins a Reading team that struggled mightily in the CHL last year. Quick PG with high basketball IQ.
Top Teams:
Wyoming- It’s going to be tough to replicate last year’s 24-1 season and even tougher to repeat an undefeated season in the CHL. Walker and Crayton will be back and provide the Cowboys with one of the best backcourts in the league. Losing 2 starters, including Evan Prater will be tough to replace, but Wyoming depends on their defense and will lean on this again to be one of the best teams in the CHL.
Taylor- All 5 starters are back from a 14-10 team last season that finished .500 in the CHL. Consistency will be the X-Factor for this group in determining how far they can go. Austing is bound for a breakout year and will be joined by Harry Hilvert (2022). Young team a season ago now adds experience and could be a dark horse not just in the CHL but in the Division II Sectionals.
Predicted FInish:
- Wyoming- Walker and Crayton return as this team is best defensive group in the league.
- Taylor- Return all 5 starters from 14-10 team; must show consistency to stay in Top 2.
- Indian Hill-Lose 1 starter from last season and return Wachs and 6’3 guard Ty Thornton (2022)
- Mariemont- Return their top 2 scorers in Megowen and 6’5 G Jon-Michael Senes (2021) but who else will provide support?
- Deer Park- Lose 5 of their top 7 and lost their 2 best returning players to Prep schools. Always finds a way to compete in CHL.
- Finneytown- Return leading scorer Kodee Holloway (2021) but lose 3 other starters from last year’s team.
- Reading- Return entire starting lineup from 1 win team in the CHL, but add Kendall as well.
- Madeira- Lose 3 starters from a 4 win team last year. Struggled in the CHL.
