In our weekly CenTex Roundup series, we highlight some of the top scorers from the Austin-San Antonio Metroplex who impressed during that given week of the season. Today’s article features four sharpshooting guards from the Austin-Metroplex who lit up opponents from beyond-the-arc and one of the top players in Texas who showed out against an extremely tough and talented DFW squad.
Here are the top five scorers from Week 3:
KJ Adams KJ Adams 6'7" | PF Austin Westlake | 2021 State #69 Nation TX | PF | Westlake (2021)
Even in the tough 77-67 loss to a top-ranked program in Duncanville, the Kansas signee still put up a dominant scoring performance with 34 points. Adams showed off his pure strength with several powerful drives past opponents with tough finishes at the basket through contact. Adams already has the body of a college-ready player and was unstoppable in the paint and around the basket.
Josh Goings | PG | Salado (2022)
Goings put on a show with his 33 point performance in Salado’s first win of the season, a 70-52 victory over the Robinson Rockets. The small-town point guard showed off his range hitting 4 threes in the game, including a beautiful step-back shot from the top of the key. Goings also showed some savvy ball-handling skills and hesitation moves to get into the paint to set up his pull-up jumper.
Nate Borchardt | PG | Lampasas (2022)
Another small-town prospect from 4A Lampasas, Borchardt has been on a scoring hot streak to start the season and continued with his 33 points in the 77-73 win over Georgetown East View. With an elite shot from beyond-the-arc, Borchardt lit up East View with four three-pointers, including two eye-popping NBA range swishes, and a pair of pull-up jumpers with pressure in his face.
KeShawn Williams | SG | Hendrickson (2021)
Williams is enjoying a breakout senior season and had his best scoring outing to date with his 30 points in Hendrickson’s 65-55 loss to Bryan. Williams nailed 7 three-pointers in the game, catching fire from both wing spots, and showed to be an elite catch-and-shoot knockdown sharpshooter for the Hawks. He does a good job of setting his feet for his shot and has a smooth and quick release.
Nazar Mahmoud Nazar Mahmoud 6'3" | SG Rouse | 2023 State #256 Nation TX | SG | Rouse (2023)
After scoring 20+ points in his first two games of the season, Mahmoud continued his scoring pace putting up 27 points in Rouse’s 63-54 loss to Cedar Ridge. Mahmoud finished the game 8-of-15 from the field, including shooting 5-of-8 from beyond-the-arc, and the sophomore shooting guard kept up his flame-throwing prowess from deep where he is nailing 52% of his shots from three-point range.
