Continue ReadingIt was an exciting first weekend of high school hoops in the Central Texas area where teams and players were still shaking off the rust and nerves of opening day jitters, but that didn’t stop them from putting up huge numbers on the scoreboard. In our weekly CenTex Roundup series, we highlight some of the top scorers from the Austin-San Antonio Metroplex who impressed during that given week of the season. Today’s article features five senior ballers from the Austin area who put up 20+ point performances in Week 1.
Here are the top five scorers from Week 1:
Aaron Jacob | 6-8 PF | Lake Travis (2021)
Jacob, a 6’8″ stretch forward who recently transferred to Lake Travis from Colorado, made a splash in his debut with the Cavaliers putting up 29 points in their 66-55 win over San Antonio Madison. Jacob swished 6 three-pointers in the game, hitting a variety of deep range shots from pull-up threes to knock down shots with opponents in his face. Jacob also went 5-5 from the free-throw line.
Albert Garza | 5-11 PG | McCallum (2021)
Garza torched Vista Ridge on opening night with 29 points in the Knights 74-57 win over the Rangers. A quick and shifty point guard, Garza consistently blew by Rangers defenders and finished strong at the basket. The senior captain’s offensive explosion was an impressive statement and he will be a player to watch closely moving forward.
Braedyn Dawes Braedyn Dawes 6'3" | SG Vista Ridge | 2021 State TX | 6-3 SG | Vista Ridge (2021)
Dawes showed why he is one of the top scorers in Austin with his 28 point performance in Vista Ridge’s loss to McCallum on opening night. Dawes flashed in the open court with finesse finishes on fast-break opportunities, and in addition, he also showed his deep-range capability hitting multiples three’s from the left corner.
Noah Robledo Noah Robledo 6'6" | SF Leander | 2021 State TX | 6-7 SF | Leander (2021)
Robledo, an elite small forward prospect who ranks top 30 in Texas and has several Division-1 offers, did not disappoint in the first game of his senior year as he posted 27 points in Leander’s 81-58 win over Vista Ridge. Robledo showed his offensive firepower by hitting pull-up jumpers off the dribble, turnaround fadeaways in the mid-range, and nailing a couple of three-pointers with hands in his face.
Jaylen Thompson Jaylen Thompson 6'2" | CG Leander Glenn | 2021 State TX | 6-2 CG | Glenn (2021)
Thompson picked up where he left off in his junior season as a prolific scorer with a 27 point performance in Glenn’s 74-72 OT win over Austin LBJ in his first game as a senior. The strong and physical combo-guard simply knows how to score and is an explosive playmaker in the open court. He had several highlight dunks over the weekend and showed his range knocking down open shots from beyond-the-arc.
