The event featured teams from the 757, 804, 703, 434 and 540 area codes, and was chock full of talent for all levels. The games were competitive, well coached and gave the kids a much needed opportunity to get seen in an unprecedented time.
Here’s a look at part one of the 2023 and 2024 standouts, featuring 6 guys who had big days last Saturday.
Curtis Blair III Curtis Blair III 6'6" | SF Steward School | 2023 State #211 Nation VA | 6’6” WF | VA Havoc 2023
Blair has continued to improve and has transformed himself into a true wing with good size and athleticism, and he’s bulked up nicely and looks the part for the next level already. He’s a smooth athlete who’s improved in his ability to handle and create space, he can make tough and contested shots from multiple levels and he’s able to play above the rim when he gets downhill. He’s a guy who can be productive in a number of ways including on the glass, and he is still just scratching the surface with how good he can be moving forward.
Carter Lang Carter Lang 6'9" | C St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State #199 Nation VA | 6’8” C | CBG 434 2023
Lang has been one of the most consistent bigs throughout the CBG Fall Series, and he had possibly his best day in session 3. He continues to show great improvement on the offensive end as he was aggressive, showed improved range and shot it consistently out to the three-point line and he’s a guy who dominates the glass with his high motor. He shot 5-for-5 from deep, and if he can continue to do that with regularity he’ll have coaches coming from all over for him.
Dennis Parker Dennis Parker 6'6" | SF John Marshall | 2023 State #89 Nation VA Jr. | 6’6” W | CBG Blue Magic 2023
Parker took a shot to the face in one of the games, but he showed his toughness and played through it and was still productive throughout the day. The point forward is so versatile as he can handle and makes great decisions and passes at his position, he can rebound and he scores in a number of ways as well. He has big time potential on both ends of the floor as he continues to develop he’s going to see a lot of college coaches coming his way.
Steven Stinson Steven Stinson 6'5" | SF John Marshall | 2023 State VA | 6’4” WF | Team Assist Orange 2023
Stinson is a guy we’ve mentioned before as he is set to have a breakout year at Trinity Episcopal and he showed that with consistent play throughout the CBG Series. Stinson has a great frame and he uses it to get to the rim and finish through traffic, and he’s an athletic finisher above the rim as well. He can score from multiple levels, he rebounds at a high rate and he plays with a good motor on both ends.
Leland Coleman | 6’4” W | Team Assist 2.0 2023
Coleman is another Trinity wing that is set to have a big year with the departure of his brother to Duke along with some other big pieces, and he looks ready to step up as he’s improved quite a bit recently. He’s grown and filled out nicely, he’s athletic and plays with a high motor and he can defend multiple positions. He’s a guy who has tons of potential and will only get better with time.
Ethan Ward Ethan Ward 6'7" | SF Landstown | 2023 State VA | 6’6” PF | CBG 757 VB 2023
Ward is a very intriguing prospect out of Landstown in Virginia Beach who should take some big steps this year and be a surprise in the area. He’s a big bodied post that is surprisingly quick and mobile for his size, and he plays with an incredible motor on both ends that makes him productive in a number of ways. He rebounds well on both ends, he runs the floor and is more explosive as a finisher than he looks and he has great hands and feet in the post that he uses to finish in the paint.
