The event featured teams from the 757, 804, 703, 434 and 540 area codes, and was chock full of talent for all levels. The games were competitive, well coached and gave the kids a much needed opportunity to get seen in an unprecedented time.
Here’s a look at part three of the 2021 standouts, featuring 7 guys who had big days on Saturday.
Allen Strothers Allen Strothers 6'2" | PG Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’2” PG | Hard 2 Guard
Strothers continues to look like one of the best available guards in not just the state but up and down the east coast as well. He has great physical intangibles with a 6’9” wingspan and is naturally athletic, he’s dynamic off the bounce and he has great hang time when he gets in the lane to finish through traffic and contact. His understanding of the game is what really stands out though, as he always knows where his guys are, he makes good decisions and plays the game the right way, making him a joy to play with.
Jayson Harris Jayson Harris 6'6" | PF Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’7” PF | Hard 2 Guard
Harris has been as steady as any big in the event, and he had another good session this past Saturday as he dominated in the paint but also showed some touch and an intriguing skill set as well. He’s a man amongst boys in the paint as he has no problem getting physical and clearing people out, he’s more athletic and mobile than he looks as he can run the floor and finish above the rim and he showed that he can step out and make shots from behind the arc as well. He’s a guy who can be a mismatch at both post positions, and the fact that he plays hard is a plus as well.
Michael Watlington | 6’5” F | Hard 2 Guard
Watlington is going to be the x-factor for this group this year, as he isn’t the most talented guy but he brings a lot of winning traits to the team with his size, athleticism and high motor on both ends. He takes no plays off when he’s on the floor, he can stick it when open and attacks the rim hard and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win a basketball game. He can guard multiple positions, he rebounds well and makes hustle plays that don’t show up in the box score as well.
Caleb Kenney Caleb Kenney 6'6" | PF Douglas Freeman | 2021 State VA | 6’6” F | Team Assist Orange
The recent Holy Cross commit still came to the CBG for session 3, and man did he show why he will be an impact guy in the Patriot League. Kenney’s length and versatility makes him an impact guy on both ends of the floor, and he showed that with a number of impressive blocks and takes to the hole where he finished with finesse at times and power at other times. He’s a walking mismatch with his ability to handle and shoot the midrange, and he’ll be able to play and guard multiple positions at that level.
Bryson Kitrell | 6’0” PG | Team Assist Orange
Kitrell continues to impress at the Fall Series, and looks like he will be one of the best players in the area in Southern Maryland next year. From watching him as a freshman and sophomore at Matoaca to watching him now, he looks like a completely different player as he’s turned himself from a stand still and knock down shooter to a point guard who can score it, distribute and run a team. He has terrific footwork when attacking the rim and can finish with either hand off either foot, he pushes in transition and makes good decisions and he’s still a guy that can stretch the floor and make shots with extremely deep range.
Jaden Walker | 6’2” WG | Team Assist Orange
Walker was quietly one of the more productive players throughout the CBG Fall Series on a very talented Assist team, and he did so with a lot of energy and hustle on both ends of the floor. Walker is a guy who always seems to be around the ball, he notices weaknesses and attacks them and he plays great in transition where he gets downhill and can score it at the rim. He also is a guy who can make shots, rebounds well and can force turnovers as well.
Ethan Conrad | 6’6” PF | Team Fastbreak
Conrad is a guy who may not look like the most intimidating guy at first, but he’s very productive in the paint and plays with a good motor and physicality. He has good touch out to the midrange, he attacks the glass on the offensive end and he has good hands and footwork in the post. He just continuously grinds it out and makes winning plays for his team.
