The event featured teams from the 757, 804, 703, 434 and 540 area codes, and was chock full of talent for all levels. The games were competitive, well coached and gave the kids a much needed opportunity to get seen in an unprecedented time.
Here’s a look at part two of the 2021 standouts, featuring 7 guys who had big days on Saturday.
Eli Bennett | 6’3” WG | CBG 434
The son of UVA coach Tony Bennett, Eli is one of my favorite guys in this event because the amount of improvement I’ve seen in both his game and his confidence from the time I saw him last year with Covenant School is unreal. He will be attending STAB this year and has been working out with their head coach Damin Altizer, and it shows as he shot the ball with confidence and played to his role perfectly. He’s a long 6’3” kid with a good IQ on both ends, he makes good decisions and he shot the rock with consistency, going 6-for-11 from deep in two games on Saturday.
Aidan Edwards | 6’4” WG | NOVA Cavs
The NOVA Cavs brought a different group this week which gave us a chance to look at some different guys on their team, and Edwards stood out with his size and ability to shoot it from deep. The Dominion HS wing a high IQ guy who moves well without the ball and can get open within the flow the offense, he’s a dead eye shooter with good form and he can attack closeouts and make plays after making a few shots. He’s someone small schools would love and he’s a high academic kid as well.
Quentin Livingston Quentin Livingston 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2021 State VA | 6’5” WF | Team Suffolk
Livingston was flat out one of the best players in session two, and while he didn’t match that output (it would be almost impossible to) he did have a good session as he produced and made an impact in a number of ways. He’s a high energy wing that brings it on both ends of the floor, he’s skilled for his size as he can make shots from deep and attack the rim off the bounce and he’s an unselfish guy who sees the floor and makes decent decisions as well. He’s an efficient scorer and good rebounder, and is a guy that should have way more D1 offers than he has right now.
Kyle Evick | 6’6” WF | VA Blaze
Evick returned with his Blaze group after a hiatus where they didn’t come for session 2, and it may have been what he needed as he was returning from a wrist injury and he looked much more healthy and confident this session. Blaze had a huge upset over a stacked Team Suffolk group, and Evick’s shooting was a big part as he was 4-for-8 from deep in the game and continued that hot shooting throughout the day. He’s a guy that many ODACs and small schools love because of his size and ability to spray it from deep, and
Bobby Johnson Bobby Johnson 6'2" | SG Western Branch | 2021 State VA | 6’2” WG | Chesapeake Jaguars
Johnson continues to show that he’s one of the more underrated guys in the 757, and despite the Jaguars not having their best day he still produced at a high level and brought a lot of energy to his team. Johnson is a guy who plays multiple positions, plays on and off the basketball for them and he brings it on both ends of the floor and produces in a number of ways for his team. He’s a good defender, he can score from multiple levels and rebounds extremely well for his size.
Whitt Williams | 6’7” PF | VA Havoc
Williams is a guy who is under the radar in the Richmond area and he showed at the CBG Fall Series that he could be a breakout guy at Benedictine this year. He’s big and mobile, he plays with good energy on both ends of the floor and he showed good touch out to the three-point line. He’s a guy who’s getting recruited at a number of levels and if he can have a big senior year he could see his recruitment pick up even more.
Jaden Curry | 5’9” PG | Peninsula Catholic
There’s something you have to love about a throwback point guard like Curry, who runs the show and sets the tone on both ends and makes everyone on the team better. He’s a rock when handling pressure, gets his team into sets and gets them where they need to be and he can break down defenders in isolation and make something out of nothing. While he is a pass first guy, he showed he can score it when he needs to and picks and chooses his spots well.
