Here are our picks for the top Shooting Guards from The Border League.
Jaylen Thompson- Southern California Academy
Jaylen Thompson is a skilled wing who has brought national attention for himself. Jaylen has great height at a true 6’6, and is super lengthy which allows him to abuse match ups with smaller defenders. Despite having a non traditional looking jump shot Jaylen is able to hit jumpers from mid range and three point land. He shows high upside of being a high level slasher, he is a great athlete and finishes well at the rim. Jaylen sometimes it may not seem like he is putting up big numbers but then you will see he had 20 plus points by doing the small things like following shots and getting open for jump shots. Jaylen has some big offers right now and as a 2022 guy I expect his stock to keep rising.
Shaedon Sharpe Shaedon Sharpe 6'4" | SG Dream City Christian | 2022 #1 Nation AZ – Dream City Christian
Shaedon Sharpe Shaedon Sharpe 6'4" | SG Dream City Christian | 2022 #1 Nation AZ is one of the most fun players to watch on the national scene. Shaedon is a super athlete who changes the energy when he steps on the floor. He has makes amazing plays that change the momentum for his team, like big dunks and chase down blocks. His ability to shift the momentum is huge and was big reason that Dream City was able to take the championship in the West Coast Division. Shaedon also showed off his mid range Kobe styled fade away which he hit over smaller defenders. Shaedon is a player I am very high on and excited to keep tracking his career.
Ausar & Amani Thompson- Hillcrest Prep
All though it may be unfair to categorize these two twins together they do have similar games. These guys are like two Tasmanian Devils on the court quickly running all over, shooting in passing lanes for steals to create fast breaks. And on fast breaks both of them are high flyers, Amen even had one of the best dunks of the weekend posterizing a defender on a fast break. They also both showed ability to spread the floor with developing jumpers. The most impressive aprt of these twins game is there energy on both sides of the court, whenever they are on the floor they are hustling!
Mikey Williams Mikey Williams 6'3" | CG San Ysidro | 2023 State #12 Nation CA-S – Storm
Mikey Williams Mikey Williams 6'3" | CG San Ysidro | 2023 State #12 Nation CA-S was someone who came out to quiet all the rumors about his bad attitude. Mikey played more mature then I have seen him play in the past, with everyone telling him he is the man I am sure it is hard for that not to go to his head. He played very well and showed off his famous athleticism getting up for dunks and blocks on the defensive end; but I found much more impressive that he is showing steps towards expanding his game. Mikey’s jumper looked very good throughout the weekend, which makes him hard to stop considering he can score on all three levels. He also showed off some of his court vision, which was a criticism I had of his game, but he came and proved me wrong my finding open teammates throughout the weekend. With Mikey’s height I think working on his guard skills is the next step to bringing his game to the next level, and he showed promise on that this weekend which was very impressive.
