Juniors across the state are ready to show off their development and assume bigger roles. But three big men already made big marks as sophomores and may arguably be the three best sophomores regardless of position:
Aidan Shaw
AidanShaw6'7" | SFBlue Valley | 2022State#50NationKS, SF, Blue Valley - Third team 6A (pictured):
The third-rated player in the state by Prep Hoops, Shaw played up a year at The Finale held in Kansas City, and might have been the most impressive athlete in the field. He is best in close, elevating over the crowd to rebound and score on short jumpers or thunderous dunks. But he’s developing a well-rounded set of skills to go with his freakish abilities. For Blue Valley last season, Shaw averaged 17.8 points, 8.5 boards and 3.4 blocks per game in the state’s highest class.
Mark Mitchell
MarkMitchell6'6" | SFBishop Miege | 2022State#21NationKS, SF, Bishop Miege - First team 4A:
The top-rated player in the state by Prep Hoops, Mitchell is a 6-foot-8 versatile stud. He can handle the ball and get to the hoop or score from the perimeter. With his high school team, he is just too physically tall and talented for opposing defenders. He posted 21.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocks

Gradey Dick
GradeyDick6'6" | SFWichita Collegiate | 2022State#36NationKS, SF, Collegiate - First team 3A:
The second-rated player in the state by Prep Hoops, Dick can do just about everything there is to do on a basketball court. He can handle the ball from end to end, shoot from the perimeter, and dominate in the post. He has a good first step and ability to slice through the lane, where he can elevate and score over just about anyone he faces in high school. There is little doubt he was already the best player in 3A as just a sophomore, when he as good for 20.3 points per contest.
