In the championship game, Class 1 state power South Iron flexed its tremendous talent with a big victory over Bunker. Ellington took home third place honors with a victory over Lesterville.
Here is a look at the top Class of 2021 standouts from the A-V Thanksgiving Tournament.
Brock Wakefield Brock Wakefield 6'4" | SG South Iron | 2021 State MO 6’4″ South Iron: The talented shooting guard has been a dominant force in the area for the past four years and this night was no different as he scored 31 points in the championship game. A signee of the Citadel, Wakefield showcased his three-level scoring ability with deep shooting range and creative takes to the basket. He also displayed his improved athleticism with a number of breakaway dunks during the tournament. The young man is a certified bucket, but he is also unselfish and he makes his teammates better.
Marco Burse 6’4″ South Iron: It was nice to see this athletic forward back on the court after he missed most of last season with a knee injury. He will play a wing at the small college level next year, but he plays more inside on a team with a multitude of talented guards. He has good athleticism and defensive instincts. He will block shots and rebound while doing a nice job of the back line of South’s Irons’ pressure defense.
Brycen King Brycen King 6'2" | SG Ellington | 2021 State MO 6’1″ Ellington: A smooth wing player who had 25 points in his team’s third-place victory over Lesterville. He is long and slender with a nice shooting stroke from 3-point range. He comes off screens well and moves without the basketball to get himself open. He also has a nice pull up jumper from the mid-range and he scored on a couple of nice drives.
Jory Skaggs 6’3″ Bunker: The burly forward was a tough customer around the basket as he really knew how to handle himself in the low post. He finished well in the paint and bodies just bounced off of him when he went after rebounds as he played with excellent effort.
