Camden’s DJ Wagner has already made an All-State team and there are several other players with the potential to do so this year. Some players have already transferred schools, which should help their development as prospects. Here are the top 2023 transfers to watch this season.
Aaron Clark Aaron Clark 6'6" | SG Brewster Academy | 2023 State #135 Nation NLG , 6’5 CG St. Benedict’s
Clark was originally part of the 2022 class, but has reclassed into the 2023 class with his move to St. Benedict’s. The Easton(PA) transfer is crafty with the ball in his hands and can beat his defender off the bounce. Clark is a good finisher around the rim and is unafraid of drawing contact. He is a talented passer and uses his size to scan the defense. St. Benedict’s has its guard duo of the future with Clark and Ty-Laur Johnson Ty-Laur Johnson 6'1" | PG St. Benedict's | 2023 #134 Nation NY manning the two spots.
Scotty Middleton Scotty Middleton 6'7" | SF Sunrise Christian | 2023 #50 Nation KS , 6’7 SF Patrick School
The Celtics are a perennial power in the Garden State and they should be again with the addition of Middleton. The Christopher Columbus transfer is a lanky wing prospect who can handle the ball on the perimeter. Middleton is a good finisher around the basket and is capable of knocking down jumpers from behind the arc. He moves his feet well on the defensive end and uses his length to get deflections. The Patrick School should be a fun team to watch in 2020-21, especially with Middleton on the perimeter.
Spencer Joyner Spencer Joyner 6'4" | PG Arts | 2023 State NJ , 6’4 PG Arts
Arts had a tough 2019-20 season, but should be in store for a bounce-back year with the addition of Joyner. The University transfer is a play-maker with the ball in his hands and can get to the rim. Joyner is more than just a slasher as he has a good release on his jumper and can get hot from distance. He is a solid on-ball defender and can rip down rebounds on both ends of the floor. Joyner will be joined by fellow University transfer Elijon Nix Elijon Nix 6'0" | PG Arts | 2023 State NJ in the backcourt, making Arts one of the top teams in Group 1 this season.
Isaac Hester Isaac Hester 6'0" | PG Ranney School | 2023 State NJ , 6’0 PG Ranney
The Panthers had a solid season as the reigning Tournament of Champions winner, but they got a big addition in Hester. The Gill St. Bernard’s transfer is a skilled ball-handler and is capable of breaking down the defense off the bounce. Hester is a good shooter from behind the arc and knows how to move off the ball. He is a solid passer and is one of the better on-ball defenders in the class. Hester joins 2022 guard Elijah Perkins Elijah Perkins 6'4" | CG Camden | 2022 State NJ in the backcourt, giving Ranney one of the top backcourts in the Shore Conference.
Chris Venturoso Chris Venturoso 6'3" | SG Lacey | 2023 State NJ , 6’2 SG Lacey
Lacey already has a good 2023 prospect in Carson Howard Carson Howard 6'7" | PF Archbishop Wood | 2023 State PA and it added a second one in Venturoso. The Point Pleasant Beach transfer is at his best attacking the basket as he knows how to finish around the basket and draw contact. Venturoso has a good mid-range game and can knock down open perimeter jumpers. He fights for rebounds on both ends and is an underrated passer. Lacey should be a team to watch in 2020-21 with its 2023 duo of Howard and Venturoso.
