2022 10 Top Highly Ranked Perimeter Defenders
We will now look at some of the best ranked perimeter defenders in the class of 2023.
Braelon Green Braelon Green 6'3" | PG Southern California Academy | 2023 #95 Nation CA-S (SG, Ypsilanti Lincoln)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #5
Late in the summer, jaws were dropping watching Green on the offensive end. But the defensive end is where he impressed me. Green was a much more physical defender and he was able to outmuscle most opponents. He could really impress with his D when he comes back this season.
Chuck Bailey III (PG, Birmingham Groves)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #14
Bailey III is such an underrated player and prospect. He goes about his business quietly and confidently. That confidence is very evident on defense, where he KNOWS that his opponent isn’t going to break him down off the dribble.
Amare Allen (CG, Hamtramck)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #26
Allen is an excellent 2 way player that deserves way more coverage. The young man can flat out lock it down on the perimeter. He keeps a low base and always has his man in front of him. Allen could ride his defense to superstar level.
Gaden Muxlow Gaden Muxlow 6'4" | CG Brown City | 2023 State MI (SG, Brown City)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #49
Let’s face it – there might not be a guard in the state that can match him pound for pound when talking about physicality. He has a wide base and moves well vertically, making him very tough to create space against and score on.
Terrell Sykes Terrell Sykes 6'4" | SF Madison Heights Lamphere | 2023 State MI (SF, Madison Heights Lamphere)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #77
Sykes could be an elite defender by the time it’s all said and done. The long defender plays very aggressively at that end. At the Top 250, you could see him searching out pasing lanes and looking for a steal or a deflection.
Mike Smith (SF, Traverse City Central)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #107
If you haven’t heard of Mike Smith, you should probably remember the name. The young man will be a difference maker before it’s all said and done. I feel like he could be an elite defender with his quick feet, grit, and toughness.
