Here are the five juniors who made the biggest moves in the Kansas 2022 Player Rankings:
9 Trey Moala Trey Moala 6'7" | PF Paola | 2022 State KS , Paola:
Moala cracked the top 10, moving up from #14. The 6-foot-6 forward/post has good hands and good coordination. He has a good jumper all the way out to the arc, and he is tough to stop in the lane. He can drive to the hole, or shoot a nice turnaround jumper. He is a really strong rebounder who loves to put the ball on the floor and push it up the court himself.
12 Sam Somerhalder Sam Somerhalder 6'7" | SF St. James Academy | 2022 State KS , St. James:
Somerhalder jumped from #19. He turned in several big outings with his summer club Team KC. The 6-foot-6 versatile forward is smooth and springy. He makes impressive slices to the hole and is a good enough ball handler to blow by defenders. He can shoot, has a quick pull-up jumper and is a team-first passer. He’s long and athletic enough to make an impact on defense and on the glass too.
13 Nahcs Wahwassuck Nahcs Wahwassuck 6'5" | CG Royal Valley | 2022 State KS , Royal Valley:
Wahwassuck moved up from #23. Wahwassuck was named first team 3A as a sophomore. He continues to grow and gain athleticism. At 6-foot-5, he is a supersized and explosive combo guard who can run an offense from the point. He can take the ball to the hole and throw it down in traffic, but he’s just as likely to rain three-pointers down on a defense. He’s a rare player who can rebound in the trees, push it the length of the floor, and make decisions like a point guard or punch it like a big at the other end.
16 Kaleb Becker Kaleb Becker 6'4" | SF Abilene | 2022 State KS , Abilene (pictured):
Becker rises up from #22. Becker was an honorable mention pick in 4A. The 6-foot-4 has a really effective shot from the mid-range, and he can knock it down beyond the arc. But he’s not just a shooter. He’s aggressive with the ball and uses his physicality to push it to the goal. He is a good enough ball handler to be a threat in the open floor, and he’s really good at running the floor, catching and scoring on the break.
27 Cason Richardson Cason Richardson 6'2" | CG Hesston | 2022 State KS , Hesston:
Richardson made the biggest jump, moving up from #49. The 6-foot-1 combo guard was a third-team 3A pick as a sophomore. He can play point, off-guard or wing. He sees the court and gets teammates involved. He can also shoot and create shots for himself. He was an effective scorer for Hesston as a sophomore.
