Not every team has gotten the chance to begin its season, but games are being played throughout the state and the excitement of high school boys basketball is back in the Keystone State
Prep Hoops continues to find the best talent throughout the state, finishing up a multi-part series in this article, looking at junior standouts in the Lancaster-Lebanon League to watch out for this season.
Peyton Wolfe, PG/SG Northern Lebanon: Wolfe has the hot hand on this Northern Lebanon team and is their go-to perimeter shooter. He had numerous names with multiple threes made in 2019/20, including seven against Donegal in February. That’s a level of confidence and poise not many see in a sophomore and now in his junior season, Wolfe is going to build off of that confidence and success tenfold. He has such an easy release and has all the makeup of a dangerous three-point specialist.
Niko Cruz-Buck, PG/SG Lebanon Catholic: Cruz-Buck is someone with the handles to break ankles regularly when he’s manning the point for Lebanon Catholic and he already got several victims last season. He plays with flare and with tenacity, a flashy guard who backs it up with his play on the court. He looks comfortable with the ball in his hands and he wants to have it when the game is on the line. Cruz-Buck is going to show out this season as a great combo guard for Lebanon Catholic.
Judd Novak, PG Manheim Central: Novak, while playing the point for Manheim Central, is also the starting QB on the football team. That leadership mentality as QB1 is ever present now on the basketball court as one of the veterans on this Barons team this season. Novak might play the point, but he’s very versatile on the court and can adjust his play style to be more of a shooter, defensive threat, scorer in the paint, or facilitator on a dime over the course of the game. He’s one of the, if not the key cog on this Manheim Central team.
Chase Maguire, PG/SG Lebanon Catholic: Maguire, due to his 5-7 frame, is not going to overpower you physically on the court, but he’s going to finesse you and cross you up on his way to the basket. He’s a crafty guard who makes his living driving to the basket. What will make him elite is his range, which he showed glimpses of throughout the season. The more consistent he is shooting from the outside and increasing his range, the better Maguire will be for Lebanon Catholic this season.
Robert Footman, SG/PG Columbia: Footman is part of Columbia’s junior double-headed monster with Kerry Glover Kerry Glover PG Columbia | 2022 State PA . He slots in at shooting guard to compliment Glover at the point and it works to perfection for the Crimson Tide. He is a three-sport athlete, also playing football and running track, adding to a perfect combination of speed, agility and great hands. He’s a fantastic ball-handler and a great shooter and he plays up-tempo. If Columbia is on the break. Footman is leading the charge, so expect to see plenty of that, plus more jumpers and outside shots from him this season.
