Teams, players and coaches have been gearing up for the start of this season through quarantine and now through the beginning of the 2020/21 academic year, and it will be very interesting to watch who fights their way to come out on top.
Prep Hoops has been previewing the best talent around the state, including this continuation of a multi-part series looking at junior standouts to watch in the Lancaster-Lebanon League.
Luke Collins, PG Lebanon: Collins is molding himself into the unquestionable veteran leader for Lebanon going into his junior season. He looks like a seasoned college veteran as a sophomore just due to his composure on the floor and his ability to really make anything happen when he’s in the game. He moves well off-ball on offense and gets himself open on the perimeter. He can speed up or slow down the tempo of the game on a dime and has great handles. He blows by defenders at the top of the key and works well into the lane for close-range shot attempts. Collins is a go-to scorer and an all-around clutch player for Lebanon.
Joseph Haas, PG/SG Donegal: Haas makes the most out his opportunities when he’s been on the floor for Donegal. His height is to his advantage as a combo guard, standing at 5-10. He’s able to get up and down the floor well and helps lead the charge on both sides of the ball. It’s great to see the confidence he possesses with the ball and that has rubbed off on his playmaking abilities. Haas will continue to make his presence known and felt on that Donegal team this season.
Pat Gilhool, SF/PF Elizabethtown: Gilhool was an efficient shooter for Elizabethtown last season, shooting at a 52 percent clip while averaging 7.2 PPG and 4.8 RPG. Those numbers for the junior will undoubtedly increase this season as he showed a great touch from the top of the key and great range for a forward. He can get done the dirty work inside, whether that be rebounding, creating turnovers with a steal, or blocking. Don’t overlook his passing ability, which is a great addition to his game. Gilhool should see more of the court this season and he could flirt with double-double averages.
Marquis Ferreira, SG Lebanon: The first thing that jumps off the tape when looking at Ferreira is his quickness and ability to cut into the lane, drive into the lane, and finish with flair and physicality. He’s a playmaker and baller on the court, someone who really plays well from the wing, whether that be dribble penetration into the paint or spotting up from three. His off-ball movement shines when he shoots from the outside. Ferreira’s basketball IQ is very high and he will be turning many heads this season if they didn’t see what he did on the floor last season.
Chase Krall, SF/PF Warwick: Krall is going to see a massive uptick in minutes and as a result, his stats after what he was able to do coming off the bench and in his limited playing time for Warwick last season. Now, as an upperclassman, he is going to thrive as a three-point specialist and a physical presence down low. Krall can do everything, though he’s going to be expected to take more of the load shooting from the perimeter, but expect him to feature in several different roles for Warwick this season.
