Until then, Prep Hoops is going to continue to profile and preview the season across the state, and in this multi-part series, will focus on junior standouts to watch out for in the Berks County Interscholastic Athletic Association this season.
Matt Harley, SG Berks Catholic: Harley is an impact shooter for Berks Catholic and it showed watching him on film. He’s one of their go-to scorers, a fantastic spot-up scorer, a soft touch from beyond the arc, but a pure shot and a clean release. He’s also able to drive inside and absolutely dominate the paint. On defense, he’s a stout defender, a really difficult player to score on. He’s an absolute nightmare to guard and an absolute nightmare for those who he’s guarding.
Mahmood Hashamy, PG Daniel Boone: The Hashamy twins compliment each other well, playing in both guard positions. Mahmood, the point guard, has good handles and pushes the tempo of the game when he’s got the ball at the top of the key. He finds lanes to drive into the paint and score. When he’s back on defense, he’s pressing up against opponents and forcing them to take long-range, uncomfortable shots, a bad shot selection.
Ahmad Hashamy, SG Daniel Boone: Hashamy is the speedier of the twins, the more pure shooter. He can really light it up from anywhere on the court and he’s been steadily improving his long-range shots. He’s usually the one leading the break on offense and is fast to the rim for the easy score. That has translated well to his defense, where he’s been able to create turnovers from steals and other bad possessions from the opposition.
Charlie Dobb, PF Conrad Weiser: Dobb is versatile as a forward and really uses his 6-7 frame to his advantage. He has similar traits to the European forwards that come out and play professionally. He’s very agile and nimble for his frame and he really excels as a pure shooter and someone who just has a perfect touch. Dobb moves well off-ball and when he’s on defense, he mans the middle well, swatting away shots, controlling the boards and just dominating in all facets of the game.
Beau Altman, SG/SF/PF Twin Valley: Altman can be used as a guard or forward on the floor and at 6-3, he’s really able to adapt well to any of those. He’s a great shooter and an aggressive player on the floor. That really comes out on his defense where he shows off his athleticism and his tenacity. On offense, he turns on the light in a split-second and can change the entire complexion of a game without warning.
