Other than the two Elite 24 squads we’ve already covered, here’s a look at some of the other players from Oregon that made an impression on us last weekend.
Kavon Bradford Kavon Bradford 6'2" | CG Benson | 2023 State OR , Dynasty Red 2023 (2023 Benson)
Bradford was the main man offensively for Dynasty during the event and continued to show us why he’s one of the top players in the state in the Class of 2023. He was able to create well off the dribble and finished a number of tough hoops around the rim including a couple of nice two-handed dunks. One of the things that makes Bradford unique is that he’s very bouncy. He’s light on his feet and is a quick leaper – something that combined with his length allows him rebound so bigger than his listed height of 6-foot-2. This was particularly evident as he often followed up his own miss with a second attempt. Bradford is working on more consistency with his lefty jumper and his point guard skills, of which he dished out some nice assists.
Adrian Mosley Adrian Mosley 6'2" | SF West Linn | 2023 State #269 Nation OR , Dynasty Red 2023 (2023 Grant)
After playing the previous weekend with the Oregon Prospects, Mosley laced up with Dynasty and similarly did a bit of everything. Once again the 6-foot-2 sophomore did the most damage inside, at times backing down smaller defenders in the post or beating guys off the dribble. Similar to Bradford, Mosley is very good at following up his own shot on the offensive rebound and had a number of putbacks. His jumper remains a work in progress but he knocked down some open shots including a couple of threes. As always, he showed off his tremendous ability to pass the ball and find the open guy out on the perimeter or streaking to the basket.
Mason VanBeenen Mason VanBeenen 6'9" | PF West Linn | 2022 State OR , Chrome Elite (2022 West Linn)
Chrome is based out of Vancouver but secured the services of VanBeenen to serve as their top big man. The 6-foot-9 forward delivered, showing some strong footwork and moves in the post as well as a soft touch. VanBeenen also ventured outside of the paint, hitting some jumpers out to three-point range and also created off of the dribble. In one game, the team even used him as the man to bring the ball up the court. In the past it seemed that VanBeenen would shy away from contact but that wasn’t the case over the weekend as he drew plenty of contact.
Tristan Davis, Elite 24 Grey (2023 Wilsonville)
A young big man that really impressed us with his play and potential was Davis. At a rock-solid 6-foot-8, he certainly had the bulk and strength to carve out space on the block and while he’s still developing offensively, finished strong around the hoop and may have been even better from the outside with his ability to hit perimeter face-up jumpers out to the arc. Davis was a total force on the boards and ended up tallying some double-doubles during the tournament.
Ty Weiskind Ty Weiskind 6'4" | SF Churchill | 2022 State OR , Elite 24 Grey (2022 Churchill)
Weiskind was the top scoring threat for the Grey team on the weekend. He has good size on the wing at 6-foot-3 and he showed the ability to score at all three levels, hitting threes, canning pull-up jumpers, and baskets at the hoop. While scoring was his main focus, Weiskind only took what the defense gave him and did a nice job looking for open teammates when that was the better opportunity. With a lot of seniors moving on at Churchill this upcoming season, expect Weiskind to step up into a much bigger role.
Chaz Storm, All-Around Players (2022 Santiam)
We hadn’t heard of Storm prior to this event and he was one guy who really caught our eye, mostly due to the fact he’s 6-foot-6 and has a really nice touch from beyond the arc. In the game we watched against the Colorado Hawks – a UA Rise squad – it might have been one of the best individual performances we’ve seen this summer. With one of the top big men in the country from Class of 2023 in Baye Fall guarding him, Storm took him outside, caught fire and buried a number of catch-and-shoot long range threes and made it look effortless. He also scored on a handful of flip floaters in the lane.
Jacob Axmaker Jacob Axmaker 6'0" | CG Stayton | 2022 State OR , All-Around Players (2022 Stayton)
Axmaker may have been the most consistent player on the All-Around Players during the event. A confident floor leader, Axmaker used his strong dribble to create space for his shot or penetrate and find the open man. He has a very quick release on his shot and deep range that extends past the NBA three-point line, which he utilized to his advantage on multiple catch-and-shoot opportunities and he really showcased his ability to get scorching hot from beyond the arc.
