Here are some bigs and wings looking for more playing time in Topeka 2020-21:
Gabriel Davis, Kansas 94×50 Elite 15U, Highland Park, 2023:
Davis is too big to not get noticed by the Highland Park coaches. He’s 6-foot-6 and big. He has a lot of development ahead of him, but he’s a young man to watch in Topeka. He can catch, turn and shoot in the midrange, and he’s a load in the post. The Scots will be loaded next year, so playing time may be a little tough to get, but Davis could be a contributor in the lane next year.
Trent Duffey SSA White, Hayden:
Duffey turned heads this summer, primarily because he is a fierce competitor who never backs down. But he also brings some nice skills and should carve out a spot at Hayden this year. He can drive and score or pull up for a nice jumper. He has range beyond the arc, and also knows how to play in the post. With his intensity and athleticism, he should be a contributor on the glass and on defense.
Wyatt Conklin, SSA Black 15U, Washburn Rural, 2023:
Rural has so many nice developing players to pick from, and Conklin certainly might earn playing time as a sophomore. At 6-foot-2, he has a solid body and good athleticism. He is tough enough to play a role in the lane, but also has enough perimeter skill to play on the wing. He can shoot from the arc or drive and make things happen.
Mason Gomez, Kansas 94×50 Elite 15U, Topeka West, 2023:
If Topeka West lacked anything last year, it was a dangerous outside shooter. With stud ball handlers Tre Alexander and Elijah Brooks returning, the Chargers are going to be super athletic. But Gomez might just be able to provide that missing piece on the perimeter. Gomez is not just a shooter however. He can handle the ball, take it into the lane, and find open shooters.
Brody Gormley, Kansas Hoggs 16U, Seaman, 2022:
Seaman will be in year two of a rebuild, and they have a ton of guards to build around. The 6-foot-5 Gormley could be an important big man for the guards to work around. He’s powerfully built and tough in the lane. He can shoot from deep or midrange, knows how to post up and will be a force in the lane.
Kaden Ireland, Kansas Hoggs 16U, Seaman, 2022:
While Gormley might be a big body for Seaman to utilize in the lane, they also might find a bigger role for Ireland, a much smaller player. Ireland is just 6-foot, but he likes to mix it up in the lane. He can leap, and is tough, so he is a factor in the lane and on the glass. He is quick, solid and gets after it on the defensive end too.
Tre Morris, Kansas 94×50 Elite 15U, Washburn Rural, 2023:
Morris is another player of medium height and diverse skills who might play any number of roles for Rural next year. He’s 6-foot-1, and can shoot from the wing or in the lane. He is athletic and has some of the ball handling skills of a point guard. Playing time at Rural will be tough for all these young players to get. Morris might have the versatility to fit several roles next year.
Casen Stallbaumer, Kansas Hoggs 16U, Seaman, 2022:
Stallbaumer is another guy with decent size who might get playing time alongside the plethora of guards at Seaman. He is athletic and tough, so at 6-foot-2 he can factor on the glass and on the defensive end. He has a confident touch from beyond the arc, and can handle the ball. So he will bring an array of skills to the lineup.
