The style of play was fast-paced and offensively driven, paving the way for the ballhandlers and quick guys to stand out. Here were some of the top passers who stood out as positive influences for their teams.
Jabril Muktar
Muktar is always a positive influence on his teams because of his ability to defend, get the paint, and perhaps most importantly, set up his teammates consistently for easy baskets. He’s not only very good in the drive-and-kick game, but he’s great at looking ahead in transition for running bigs or spot-up shooters running their lanes. He keeps the ball moving and makes it easy for his teammates.
Raymond Brown Raymond Brown 5'11" | PG Fargo Davies | 2023 State NDBrown is an intriguing young talent and while he’s got a lot of similar characteristics to Muktar in that he’s undersized and tough on the defensive end, he’s also got a lot of similar passing skills. He’s a solid scorer, but he looks most comfortable when he’s drawing defenders and either dumping to bigs at the rim or pitching to shooters. And he does a great job not holding the ball too much, allowing his teammates to stay involved.
Joe Uttecht Joe Uttecht 6'0" | PG SF Washington | 2022 State SDUttecht had a terrific all-around day and one of the most impressive aspects was his secondary playmaking ability. He’s got the length and quickness to get to spots on the floor where he can do damage and while he scored at ease against a lot of people, he also did a great job distributing and feeding his teammates easy shot after easy shot.
Spencer Barr Spencer Barr 5'11" | PG Aberdeen Central | 2023 State SDBarr was a menace for defenders to keep out the paint throughout the day. He’s got a smooth handle and excellent burst when putting the ball on the floor going to the rim. And his ability to either elevate and finish or create easy scoring chances was a big positive for his teams throughout play.
Aidan O’Mara
O’Mara is a physical lead guard who does a great job getting dribble penetration and finding teammates for easy buckets on a consistent basis. He’s not real tall, but he uses his lower center of gravity of play through contact on drives and his sense for the floor allows him to find guys at a high rate against rotating defenders.
