Boden Kapke Boden Kapke 6'11" | C Holy Family | 2023 State #153 Nation MN (6’9 2023 C, Holy Family)- In the conversation for top center in the 2023 class, Boden Kapke Boden Kapke 6'11" | C Holy Family | 2023 State #153 Nation MN showed off a new dimension of his game at the Top 250 Expo. With great size in the paint, Boden is able to score with touch around the rim when he’s able to receive an entry pass. However, he isn’t reliant on post touches to be effective. Boden showcased his ability to pop outside, and when given too much space, score from beyond the arc. He also added in a few buckets off of second chance opportunities.
Logan Schmidt Logan Schmidt 6'8" | C Eagan | 2022 State MN (6’8 2022 C, Eagan)- I came away extremely impressed with Logan’s improvements since I had last seen him during the high school season. He has solid size to play the five in high school, and he combines that size with some solid footwork on the block. Logan showcased a really nice baby-hook with his right hand, and was comfortable stepping out to the elbow and hitting contested mid-range jumpers. He also had one of the most impressive moves of the day with a spin on the fast break leading to a soft left handed finish.
Isaac Nyakundi (6’7 2023 PF/C, Duluth East)- There’s nothing flashy about Isaac’s game, but he simply competes and gets the job done on both ends. He works hard on the glass, fights for low-post position, and runs the floor hard to get open looks under the rim. He has solid athleticism for a young big, and the touch to finish around the rim with his right hand. Isaac has only been playing basketball for two years, but his skills are starting to come along and he could be a dangerous player as an upperclassman.
PJ Ebeling PJ Ebeling 6'10" | C Totino Grace | 2022 State MN (6’9 2022 C, Totino-Grace)- A more under-the-radar player who won’t get as much shine playing for a loaded Totino-Grace squad, but PJ looks like a guy who could provide some solid minutes for them in the post over the next two seasons. He has some nice height and a strong frame that allows him to stand his ground in the post defensively, and works hard to clean up the glass. Offensively he has the touch to occasionally knock down the open jumper, and can score off second chance points around the rim.
Patrick Bath (6’9 2023 PF/C, Totino-Grace)- Even more Totino-Grace size that performed at the Top 250 Expo, the 2023 product has all of the physical tools to be a high level prospect. He moves extremely well for his size, and has some explosive athleticism off two feet around the rim. He’s able to use that athleticism to finish above the rim and contest on the defensive end. Offensively he has a dangerous pump fake to get his defender of their feet, and the quick burst to drive by them and either pull-up from mid-range or take it to the rim to finish.
Austin Josephson Austin Josephson 6'9" | C South Ridge | 2023 State MN (6’7 2023 C, South Ridge)- A small school standout in the 2023 class, Austin was a new name for me at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo. For his size he has a solid build that one wouldn’t normally expect from just a sophomore, and he worked hard running the floor. What impressed me most was his ability to step out in the 15 foot range and knock down the mid-range jumper with a confident stroke. If he can continue to build on his footwork, he could be a dangerous post prospect going forward.
Donnavin Hinsz Donnavin Hinsz 6'6" | PF Columbia Heights | 2022 State MN (6’6 2022 F, Columbia Heights)- Donnavin is a guy who has the size to play the four, but is also athletic enough to step out to the wing at times. I have him in with the posts because he did a lot of his best work around the basket. His athleticism and length allowed him to reject two shots in the game I saw, and he’s a physical presence who used his body well to box out and attack rebounds. Offensively he showed the strength to power through contact, and also had an impressive and-one finish going coast-to-coast on the break. He’ll play a key role for Columbia Heights after transferring in over the offseason.
