Breyton Buysman Breyton Buysman 6'3" | SG Simley | 2021 State MN of Simley (6’3, 2021). My expectations for Breyton continue to sky rocket. He’s a good sized guard that has the ability to put points on the board from a lot of different angles. Buysman is a good shooter and he’s used a few different attack moves to clear the defender to score both with a balanced touch make, and some scores on the move after his fake/step cleared the initial man. I really like how comfortable Breyton is catching and knocking down looks. There is a confidence there that seems likely to put 20 points on the board this winter. Liked what I saw defensively too, looked locked in and guys had trouble getting around Buysman both early, and later in possessions.
Adam Jenkins of Moorhead (6’7, 2023). Yes we are talking about Adam Jenkins again. Why? Because he was one of the most consistently productive player/prospects at the event. And as we said earlier today…… What I really like the most about Adam is his activity. At this age with Adam still learning the game, the biggest thing that his team can use is his activity behind the play using that long body to finish at the cup and board. He does a great job in forcing players over his length on the block as well as moving to his help to contest whatever he can. Active rebounder too.
Pharrel Payne of Park-Cottage Grove (6’8, 2022). I’m trying to contain/conserve my thoughts but honestly I think Pharrel Payne has a very high ceiling. And yes this young man could find himself with scholarships yes, but maybe at a level he hasn’t really even thought of yet. Payne is so quick off his feet and he covers ground in a hurry at his size to finish off plays. He will be one of the better shot blockers in the state and if what we saw this weekend is any indication, Payne could also rank among the best in boards per game and field goal percentage. Payne is becoming more comfortable with his back to the basket highlighted by a really nice spin move after he stuns players with contact. Uses his body well to finish around the rim and he’s becoming more and more comfortable with a dribble.
Henry Shannon of Eastview (6’6, 2021). Second straight weekend we’ve had a chance to see Henry Shannon be a key option on the floor, and it was the second straight weekend that Shannon looked good being one of the main options on the floor. I was impressed with a couple of Shannon’s attacks putting the ball down twice and covering a load of ground in the halfcourt set to finish on the left side. Also, Henry is better around the basket than I realized. I wouldn’t call him a post at all but he did a few low post things that had me thinking Eastview could likely use him at the four too. Saw him finish full court stepping through strongly, used a really nice crossover to get baseline and then hit with that comfortable left, and Shannon touched in shots from all over the paint with that left.
Jaelen Treml Jaelen Treml 6'4" | SF Hopkins | 2021 State MN of Hopkins (6’4, 2021). Another event, another mention of one of the state’s most improved players. We’ve spoken a lot about Treml but he’s earned it. Stepped on the floor this Sunday and led with his effort/activity, led with some simple passes as well as some excellent reads hitting cutters, and Treml made sure that his team was going to be the one taking solid shots most possessions. Jaelen also continues to blend in some difficult shots made from mid-range near the rim. It’s going to be fun watching him lead Hopkins in whatever roles Coach Ken Novak Jr chooses for him.
