Conference Commentary
State Title Contender – Totino-Grace
Totino-Grace is arguably the deepest team in Minnesota high school basketball. They have four starting senior caliber players that will be role players for this team, there is four of the top five or six 2023 prospects in the state of Minnesota on this team, a nationally ranked junior, an up and coming junior, and a group of role playing seniors that may not even play a minute (on average) even though most places they’d help a team. That’s what makes the Eagles arguably the deepest team in the state. Or at least one of them.
Top Ten in State Potential – Park Center, Osseo, Spring Lake Park, Robbinsdale Armstrong
These four squads are what make this league very interesting. Park Center graduated a great senior class but still has the talent to work their way into the top ten. They may not start their but Jalen Cook Jalen Cook 6'4" | SG Park Center | 2021 State MN , Braeden Carrington Braeden Carrington 6'4" | SG Park Center | 2022 State #141 Nation MN , and company could work the team to that top ten spot. Spring Lake Park lost five of their top seven guys to graduation. That said, the two starters they have back as well as the senior prospects from their JV can all play. They won’t fall far. Armstrong will have a different looking team but they will still be a very good team led by Coach Bryant. And Osseo, a team that had Totino-Grace like expectations (of taking a big step) last year but had a lot of inconsistencies that made things tough. The Orioles will be better this year now that players are more mature and injuries can’t play as big of a factor (one would think).
Taking a Step – Rogers, Elk River
Rogers were a 10-17 team last year and they lost their top four scorers from a season ago. The Royals will still have talent but inexperience back from a 10 win squad will make things tough. Elk River was a six win squad but they should improve by some wins this season.
