Usually in tournaments top teams will have blowout games but most of the matchups in the top leagues where all pretty even good games. This event was great to see a ton of the top players go head to head.
Here are our picks for the top big men from the Border League in Gilbert, Arizona.
Chet Holmgren Chet Holmgren 7'0" | C Minnehaha Academy | 2021 State #1 Nation MN – Sizzle
Chet Holmgren Chet Holmgren 7'0" | C Minnehaha Academy | 2021 State #1 Nation MN is the definition of a modern day big man. Chet has earned a top three ranking nationally from all major rankings formats, this is due to his very high upside. He has a 7 foot frame and guard like tendencies which makes him a matchup nightmare. Chet impressed with his abiltiy to see the floor, he uses his height to look over defenders and hitting cutting teammates. He also puts the ball on the floor really well for his height which sets up his downhill game, where he finishes well and draws fouls at the rim. Despite being very skinny Chet was more then able to hold his own down low, with his 7’6 wing span he is a great rim protector. Chet is a player I am excited to keep an eye on to see what his future holds.
Adem Bona- Prolific Prep
Adem Bona is a straight dawg I am sure college coaches are looking at. The transfer from Turkey was attacking the boards all weekend, probably the best rebounder in the event. Adem had some great putbacks and one of the best highlights of the weekend flying in for a huge putback dunk. He is also a crazy athlete who runs the floor very well for his height and is a constant lob threat. He was also able to step out and hit some mid range jumpers. Adem also is a great rim protector who was pinning shots off the backboard all weekend. Adem is a player with high upside and is also someone who you can plug into any system and he will be a difference maker due to his hustle and defense.
Adrame Diongue Adrame Diongue 6'11" | C AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #202 Nation AZ – AZ Compass
Adrame Diongue Adrame Diongue 6'11" | C AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #202 Nation AZ is a true 7 footer who I think will blow up this year. Adrame showed very high upside with his combination of height and athleticism. He was a great rim protector using his length to block a ton of shots. He also some big putback dunks by putting himself in great position by the rim, he has surprisingly good footwork to boxout on both ends. Adrame also was able to step out onto some forwards and wings on defense, once again showing off his great footwork, I was very impressed by that. Adrame has four D1 offers and is not nationally ranked, I am sure that will change this year his talent speaks for itself.
Wilhelm Breidenbach Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'8" | PF Mater Dei | 2021 State #91 Nation CA-S – Mater Dei
Wilhelm Breidenbach Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'8" | PF Mater Dei | 2021 State #91 Nation CA-S is someone you will recognize everytime he walks in the gym, with his goggles he does not look like a typical hooper but once you see him play you’ll know he is the real deal. If I had one word to describe Wilhelm it’d be efficient, he is not someone who is going to try and do any flashy moves, he is just straight to the point. He is a nice mix of a traditional big and a stretch big man, he has a great footwork and a set of post moves down low to create layups and mid range fade aways. Wilhelm also is almost always the first player down the floor, he runs great for his size and has a great motor on both ends. He was also able to stretch the floor out and shoot from mid range and three point land. One comparison I think of when watching his game is Pau Gasol, they have very similar games with the good post moves and ability to spread the floor. Nebraska has a great player coming their way next year.
