The classes of 2022 and 2023 were both well represented. Let’s take a look at a few standout sophomores and juniors from Sunday:
Joshua Pearre | 2022 | 6’2’’ Shooting Guard | McKinney North HS – Pearre was a crafty finisher at the basket on Sunday. He showed that he can play above the rim in transition, but also displayed the ablity to finish with finesse when attacking off the dribble in the half court. In addition, the McKinney North junior is a terrific on-ball defender who sits down in a stance and moves his feet.
Nicolo Romanelli | 2022 | 6’0’’ Point Guard | Spring Creek Academy – Romanelli is a shifty ball handler who sees the floor well. He is an excellent playmaker at the point, delivering accurate passes and making smart decisions throughout the event. Furthermore, the SCA floor general contributes on the defensive glass and is an active defender. He finds ways to be involved at both ends, proving that he can impact games without lighting it up as a scorer.
Finley Bizjack Finley Bizjack 6'5" | CG Byron Nelson | 2023 State #131 Nation TX | 2023 | 6’4’’ Shooting Guard | Byron Nelson HS – Bizjack is a twitchy athlete with exceptional quickness. His movements are very sudden, keeping defenders on their heels with his ability to accelerate. He was virtually unguardable when attacking in isolation. The sophomore guard turned heads with his passing too. He was brilliant as a facilitator throughout the expo, setting teammates up beautifully with some flashy passes. Additionally, Bizjack finished through contact at the hoop and competes hard from start to finish.
Precious Chibueze Otiocha | 2022 | 6’4’’ Small Forward | Kipp Houston HS – Otiocha has a long and wiry frame and possesses good height at 6-feet-4-inches. He plays bigger than his size. The two-sport athlete’s football background is evident. He high-points rebounds and shields off opponents with his body like a wide receiver, and he plays the passing lanes on defense like a ball-hawking safety. The Kipp Houston forward has a ton of upside.
Garrett Nuckolls Garrett Nuckolls 6'5" | SG Bullard | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’6’’ Shooting Guard | LaPoynor HS – Nuckolls has great size for the two-guard position. He displayed a tremendous all-around offensive arsenal at the expo. He knocked down threes from the catch, had success attacking closeouts from the baseline, and consistently finished in transition. Beyond that, Nuckolls was fundamentally disciplined at both ends, understanding his assignments and making the most of his touches.
Julian Moreno | 2023 | 6’1’’ Combo Guard | Parkland HS – Moreno operates efficiently at either guard spot. He knows how to utilize screens and is a good decision maker as the ball handler in pick-and-roll scenarios. He played with great pace on Sunday and did a good job of slithering his way to the basket for layups. His body control when finishing off the drive was also noteworthy.
Kelvin Tamakloe | 2022 | 6’7’’ Power Forward | Spring Creek Academy – Tamakloe looked like he was on a mission to punish the rim at the expo. He is quick to leave his feet and loves to finish above the rim in both transition and the half court. The junior forward scores in the paint with both hands as well. As a rebounder, Tamakloe was borderline dominant. He cleaned up the glass at both ends.
