The classes of 2022 and 2023 were both well represented. Let’s take a look at a few standout sophomores and juniors from Sunday:
PJ Twa | 2022 | 6’3’’ Shooting Guard | McKinney Boyd HS – Twa is a long and athletic two-guard. He has a smooth style of play. He shoots the three well enough to force defenders to respect it, which opens him up to score at the basket off the drive. On defense, Twa is a terrific on-ball defender with quick hands. He stays in front of his man and picks pockets with the best of them.
Joshua Davis | 2022 | 6’1’’ Combo Guard | Grapevine Faith Christian – Davis can operate at either guard spot and transitions between the two positions well. The Grapevine Faith junior was responsible for some brilliant finishes at the hoop on Sunday. He has a knack for converting reverse layups and understands how to use the rim as a shield. He also made some excellent no-look passes when playing the role of facilitator.
Antwan Taylor | 2022 | 6’5’’ Shooting Guard | Harker Heights HS – Taylor was extremely impressive at last year’s Texas Top 250 Expo. I wasn’t able to get out to any of his high school games last season, and I hadn’t heard much about him since. I’m happy to report that he is still a monster on the hardwood. The 2022 guard is an explosive athlete who finishes with power above the rim. He also gets it done with finesse, evidenced by several gorgeous Euro step maneuvers on his way to the cup. Taylor is criminally underrated and is positioned for a breakout junior season.
Quinten Hupp Quinten Hupp 6'3" | CG Fort Worth Christian | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’3’’ Combo Guard | Nolan Catholic HS – Hupp showed off his entire offensive repertoire at the expo. He likes to get downhill and is a great finisher with both hands. The junior guard also put together a solid shooting performance from behind the arc. He was particularly effective when shooting from the catch. His ablity to constantly pressure defenses is outstanding. Additionally, he had some good-looking assists and displayed good decision making in transition.
Ryan Blair | 2023 | 6’0’’ Shooting Guard | Johnson HS – Blair is another prospect who shoot the three ball at a high clip on Sunday. He has NBA range and can knock down triples off the dribble or from the catch. The sophomore guard has a pretty jumper and a quick release. Beyond that, Blair has a tight handle and plays with good pace on offense. He is certainly an underclassman to keep an eye on.
Fawaz Odunbaku | 2022 | 6’2’’ Combo Guard | IL Texas Katy-Westpark HS – Odunbaku is an explosive leaper who can throw it down in the half court as well as in transition. He has a tremendous vertical and showed the ablity to catch and finish lobs over the top of defenders. His athleticism is off the charts. The 6-foot-2-inch sophomore also rebounds incredibly well for a guard.
