This was a massive event and tons of seniors from 6 different states were able to showoff their talent and skills to over 120 college coaches that watched both in-person and virtually. Over the next few weeks, we are going to breakdown each team and evaluate each player from that team. Today, we look at Team 12.
Team 12:
Trevor Smith Trevor Smith 6'1" | PG Stoney Creek | 2021 State MI – 6’1″ PG – Stoney Creek MI:
Smith is a lead guard with a ton of quickness and high IQ. Has an athletic build and really utilizes that on both ends. One of the better defenders I saw as he did a good job in locating the ball and taking it away from the offense. Does not really have traditional looking jumper but he can knock down shots from the outside. Very smart off the court with a GPA of 3.90. Finished with 25 points on the day and played real well.
Jackson Paul Jackson Paul 6'0" | PG Churubusco | 2021 State IN – 6’1″ PG – Churubusco IN:
Paul is a shorter lead guard with a great motor. Ton of energy and has a physical playing style. Great on the defensive end and had a great play where he stole the ball and then hit a pull-up jumper on the fastbreak when I watched him. Has the ability to create for himself and others on the offense. Just a smart player on and off the court (3.80 GPA). Finished with 21 points in total.
Jamarr Jones – 6’3″ SF – Arsenal Tech IN:
Jones is a tall wing that rebounds the ball well. Strong player and can really get to the basket. Not really an outside shooter at this point as he did most of scoring inside 15ft. Finished with 13 points in total that day and has a nice GPA of 3.40. Should be a major factor for Arsenal Tech this season.
Evan Altman Evan Altman 6'6" | PF Brebeuf Jesuit | 2021 State IN – 6’7″ PF – Brebeuf Jesuit IN:
Altman is a big post player with a lean frame and a ton of strength and athleticism. Was one of the more talked about players among the colleges coaches because of how skilled and talented he is. So smooth around the rim and can also stretch the floor on the offense (three 3’s). Crashes the glass well on both ends and is so tough about it. Finished with 26 points and overall was one of the best players at the showcase.
Gabriel McQuay – 6’0″ PG – Arsenal Tech IN:
Mcquay is a shorter combo guard that can really shoot the ball. Real solid with the ball in his hands and is able to create his own shot. His outside jumper is so smooth and he was able to knock down five 3’s on the day. Not the biggest player on the court but is going to play hard and give a team some buckets. Finished with 33 points and was one of the more underrated players on the day. Keep an eye on Mcquay as he could be a top guard this upcoming season.
TJ Price TJ Price 6'1" | SG Springfield Lanphier | 2021 State IL – 6’2″ SG – Lanphier IL:
Price is a shorter shooting guard but has a long frame and with long arms. High end scorer and slashes well through traffic. Great shooter and the type that can get hot at any moment (five 3’s). Stole the ball a few times and looked solid on the defensive end. Finished with a high 34 points on the day. Overall, Price looked really impressive and should be an Illinois senior to keep on your radar.
Jadyn Benson Jadyn Benson 6'4" | SG Mt. Carmel | 2021 State IL – 6’4″ SF – Mount Carmel IL:
Benson is small forward with a good amount of athleticism. Solid shooter and has a nice perimeter shot. Real explosive going at the rim and not afraid to bang down low. Has the size and length to become a great defender at the next level. Finished with 9 points on the day.
Damian Zivak Damian Zivak 6'6" | SG Barrington | 2021 State IL – 6’5″ SF/PF – Barrington IL:
Zivak is a combo forward that can play all over the court. Has more of an inside-out game that can give an offense some options. Great perimeter shooter and is especially good on the pull-up (three 3’s). Not overly athletic but has a ton of toughness to his game. Finished with an impressive 23 points and showed that he is a forward that can do a lot of things well.
Connor Davis Connor Davis 6'4" | SG Nequa Valley | 2021 State IL – 6’5″ PF – Parke Heritage IN:
Davis is a big forward that is so strong. Kind of a throwback power forward as he just so bruising down low on both ends. Did not have a ton of points on the day (8 points) but most of his scoring came from the post area. Great rebounder and boxes out well. He is not going to be the most exciting player on the floor but he is going to do his job when asked of him. Should be huge for Parke Heritage this season.
Malachi Pearson Malachi Pearson 6'4" | SF Logansport | 2021 State IN – 6’5″ SG/SF – Logansport IN:
Pearson is a tall guard/wing with a ton of athleticism. Great scorer with a very quick release on his shot. One of the better players on the baseline I saw on the day as he did a great job in not only running it but shot it well from there as well. Overall, solid at both driving to the rim and shooting it from the outside. Finished with a solid 16 points in total. There is some breakout ability in Pearson.
