King has football offers from Penn State, Notre Dame, Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State, Stanford, and Minnesota plus Iowa, Iowa State, Stanford, Minnesota, Marquette, and others offering basketball scholarships. Schools are in regular contact and last weekend Eli met up with the full Minnesota Gopher basketball staff for a virtual visit.
“Eli had a virtual visit with the Gopher staff last Saturday, maybe,” Caledonia coach Brad King said. “It was with all of the coaches. I wasn’t on the call it was just Eli, but Eli enjoyed it. He likes all the communication he’s gotten from them. Multiple coaches on the Minnesota staff have been talking to Eli.
“The relationship with Coach Pitino is good. Eli says he likes the way Coach Pitino and the staff talk about using him. I’ve enjoyed talking to their coaches as well.”
Eli is coming off a fantastic summer with D1 Minnesota, a stretch of games where the D1 Minnesota 17s – a team that Eli played up an age on – lost just once. Eli was named to the 17U All State Team in Minnesota and he was honored among 25 players this summer as Prep Hoops Circuit All Americans.
It’s been a continuation of success and accomplishments for Eli but he continues to put his nose down simply grinding each day.
“Eli brings energy every day and an attitude to improve. His ability to guard all five positions makes him a unique player. He strives to do well in the classroom also.”
Where is Eli at in terms of which sport he picks? Not far. It’s more about finding the right fit, for whatever sport.
“I’d say for whichever sport I pick, the most important thing will be relationships with the coaching staff,” Eli added. “The school academic-wise is important to me and the program’s culture. Those are the three main things.”
