Production factors in only when helping prove the potential is greater or lesser. Why did we rank these guys? Why are they at this spot? Take a look at four Class of 2023 prospects and learn a little about their reputation.
#1 Jaylen Jones Jaylen Jones 6'0" | PG East Nashville | 2023 State #178 Nation TN (East Nashville)
In his freshman year, Jaylen helped his brother Isaiah’s East Nashville team qualify for the Class AA State Tournament again. Jones averaged a team-best 15.3 points per game along with 4.7 assists and 2.0 steals per. Without an AAU season to showcase his greatness Jaylen still enters Year Two with five college offers. The future is blindingly bright for this expert shooter. Gritty. Tennessee Tech and Wake Forest joined Tennessee State to give JJ a trio of Division 1 offers already! Interested D1 programs yet to offer include: Virginia Tech, Florida, Memphis, USC, Georgia.
#2 Isaiah West Isaiah West 6'3" | SG Goodpasture | 2023 State #216 Nation TN (Goodpasture)
Grew up as a combo guard, playing alongside older, more matured physically guards. Ready to take over the program and shoots adeptly. Garrett is broadly respected as one of the best guards in Williamson County. He should ascend to be one of the best guards in middle Tennessee. Division II ceiling feels safe.
“He can score at will,” analyzed Zach Jackson of @wavymediabrand. “(He is a) 6’4″ guard in the Class of 2023, so he’s going to grow more. He can jump out of the gym. He’s a guard doing putback dunks in-game. You dont see that too much from guards. He just needs to improve on his jumper and once he does that…This year will be a pretty big year for him, in my opinion.”
#3 E.J. Smith (Memphis East)
Quick, snapping three-point shot. Lefty. EJ hits his outside attempts with dangerous regularity and yet his most bankable asset is the handles. Smith is a name people around Memphis have known for 2-3 years. As a young guard, perhaps as early as 6th grade, E.J. Smith E.J. Smith 6'3" | PG Memphis East | 2024 TN was already dominating. His transfer to Memphis East indicates Smith possesses the respect of Jevonte Holmes.
#4 Jasen Brooks Jasen Brooks 6'1" | PG Cleveland | 2023 State TN (Cleveland)
High School Coach Reggie Tucker labeled him as a “Top 10” player in the class. Built like a varsity middle linebacker. Moves with the agility of a young O.J. Mayo. Demands respect of every teammate with his steady, unselfish play. Hard worker.
