This was the first time running the event in Michigan, and the girls Top 250 was a huge success. I will name a class of 2021 Most Outstanding Player and Honorable Mentions from the event. Keep in mind, it’s impossible for me to see every moment, of every athlete, in every game played. This is strictly relegated to what I witnessed and some input from coaches.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Terrance Broughton Terrance Broughton 6'0" | PG Cass Tech | 2022 State MI (5-10, G, Romulus)
Broughton impressed at the Top 250. He showed some creativity at the rim, including a nice up and under finish. Broughton had zip on his passes throughout the day.
Brandon Downs Brandon Downs 6'2" | PG Coldwater | 2022 State MI (6-1, Coldwater)
Downs is a player to keep an eye on over the next couple years. He looked really solid and confident at the Top 250. He rose up on his jumper and looked under rated as an athlete.
Nathan Steinman (6-1, G, Clarkston)
Steinman will surprise people at Clarkston next high school season. People were raving about him this spring and summer, and they looked to be right.
Carson Sanders Carson Sanders 6'5" | CG Hanover Horton | 2022 State MI (6-4, G, Hanover Horton)
Sanders has all the looks of a next level player. He has good positional size and strength to go with high level ball skills.
Ethan Crabtree Ethan Crabtree 6'5" | SG Coldwater | 2022 State MI (6-4, G, Coldwater)
Crabtree is such a smart player. He can play above the rim as well as hit a jumper from behind the arc. Crabtree will be a matchup nightmare next high school season.
Benjamin McCaskill (6-1, G, Cranbrook Kingswood)
McCaskill is a tough downhill guard. He has good handles and he utilizes it when breaking down defenders and attacking the rim.
Kendall Smith Kendall Smith 6'8" | SF Muskegon Reeths-Puffer | 2021 State MI (6-7, F, Muskegon Reeths-Puffer)
Smith has all the intangibles to be an influence at the next level. He can score from multiple levels and defend multiple positions.
Max Burton Max Burton 6'10" | SF Williamston | 2022 State MI (6-9, F, Williamston)
What’s not to like about a 6-9 shooter? Coaches and scouts were all over his games, and for good reason. He can fill it up from deep.
Sam Leppien (6-10, C, Alma)
Leppien made a statement about his game at the Top 250. He has the potential to be a highly regarded post player in the state. His soft hands and feet stood out.
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER
Brady Titus Brady Titus 5'10" | PG Tri-Unity Christian | 2022 State MI (5-11, G, Tri-Unity Christian)
Surprise, surprise. The young man just gets the job done in the biggest of environments. As the games wore on and players got fatigued, Titus never slowed a step and in fact got stronger. His shot was quick and pure from both mid range and behind the arc. Titus recognized good scoring opportunities and didn’t need to be ball dominate to put up numbers and influence a game. In my opinion, people should stop worrying about his height, and take him for the type of Division 1 prospect that he is.
