The competition at this event was the highest it has been and was an impressive showcase of all of the talent in the great state of Texas. Be on the lookout for the rest of my content, as I thoroughly cover this event.
Edric Boyce 2023 Guard
Edric is a quick guard who thrives in getting up and down the floor. He is a scrappy on ball defender who loves to poke the ball free on his opponents live dribble. He has the foot speed and aggressiveness to pick up elite ball handlers the entire length of the court, just to annoy them. He is a dominant ball handler who can initiate offense and create for others. I would like to see him work on his ability to get to a pull up in the midrange, as well as soft floaters and runners he can get to in the lane.
Grant Rein 2023 Guard Grapevine Faith High School
Grant is an explosive guard who is a confident ball handler and reliable shooter. As a younger player I was very impressed with his fearlessness among older and stronger competition. He was confident and played at his own speed. He has a soft touch on his floater in the lane and really showed off his ability to score over bigger defenders. I would like to see him work on his off hand, finishing, floaters and passing. He has real potential to become an elite offensive weapon.
Brunel Stewart 2023 Guard
Brunel is great at slashing and attacking the rim. He has crafty finishes in the lane and has good footwork to allow him to get by defenders in the paint, showing off some nasty euro steps and double clutch layups. I would like to see him work on his ball control and ability to shoot off the catch and dribble. He is great underneath the bucket and sets up his teammates very well but to take the next step he has to be more confident from range.
Jericho Rafinan 2023 Guard Montwood High School
Jericho is an undersized guard who plays with real intensity and grit. I was impressed with his fearlessness among older competition and his ability to remain effective. He is a scrappy on ball defender who loves to make his opponents uncomfortable. He was caught out of position a few times on the defensive end, as a result of him trying to get to greedy and was overly aggressive in the passing lanes. I would like to see him work on his basketball IQ and understanding spacing on the floor.
Caden Rizo 2023 Guard 6’0 Johnson High School
Caden is a fantastic point guard who can create for himself and his teammates. He scores well in the paint, on the fast break and within the half court. I was really impressed with the touch on his long passes and overall court vision. He is great at getting into the paint and passing out as well as finishing at the rim. He is a great defender and plays the passing lanes with intensity and came up with multiple steals and easy fast break opportunities. I would like to see him work on his ability to shoot off the bounce, in the midrange and behind the arc.
