Jace is a great talent for the Lewiston Bengals who will continue to improve and become a major contributor in the next two high school basketball seasons. In the 2020-21 season, Jace will look to lead the Bengals to a district title and a shot at the state tournament championship. Continue reading for a complete breakdown of McKarcher’s skills and abilities on both ends of the floor.
Defense: Jace is a solid defender for the Bengals. Against guards, McKarcher is physical and has great quickness which allows him to keep offensive players in front. He plays aggressively with his hands and can easily poke the ball away from weaker ball handlers when he applies ball pressure. He does not get beat easily and always keeps his man in front without giving up easy driving lanes. Against bigs, McKarcher works to front while calling for backside help. He is physical and does not back down from bigger players. One of his greatest strengths is his ability to read passing lanes and jump the ball for a steal. As a rebounder, Jace occasionally crashes the glass after he boxes out and knows he can secure a board.
Offense: McKarcher is a great offensive talent for Lewiston. From outside, he is a knockdown shooter that always has his feet set and is ready to fire at will. He has a shooter’s mentality and is always looking for a little bit of space to get his shot off. If he does not shoot from deep, McKarcher can drive to the rim and finish through traffic with either hand. He likes to find gaps in the defense after using a big crossover to catch defenders off balance. Jace is one of the best passers in the state and he has excellent vision when he drives. He always makes the right read after coming off a screen and roll or driving down the lane.
Overall: Altogether, Jace is a great player on both ends of the court. On defense, McKarcher plays hard and grabs a lot of steals against opposing guards. Offensively, Jace is a knockdown shooter with excellent vision. He would make a great 2-guard at the next level.
