Hudson is a great player for the Ambrose Archers and will continue to develop in his final two seasons of high school basketball. Hughes will look to help lead the Archers next season as they arrive in a new division and seek a district title and an appearance at the state tournament. Continue reading for a breakdown of Hudson’s skills and abilities on the floor.
Defense: Hudson is a solid defender for the Archers and he will continue to improve in his next two seasons. Hughes usually plays at the front of Ambrose’s press and has great hands. He routinely flies through passing lanes for easy steals and has active hands when pressuring the ball. In the half court setting, Hughes always keeps his man in front and can tap the ball away from ball handlers that struggle with pressure. Against bigs, Hudson does his best to battle and push posts off of the block, but his strength and power will come in the next two seasons, helping him be a more effective post defender. He makes up for this by being a high IQ defender that makes smart reads and takes calculated risks.
Offense: Hughes has a lot of offensive talent that is on display at any Ambrose game. Like his older brother, Hudson has a great jump shot from the perimeter that his knocks down consistently and shoots with confidence. He also likes to shot fake and take the ball all the way to the rim where he is a solid finisher with either hand. Hudson has a lot of great fundamental skills and the game seems to slow down for him when he is on the court. Just like his defensive IQ, Hudson also plays the offensive side of the game with a lot of mental skill and decision making. He is a willing passer that consistently finds the open man for an easy look. He is an offensive threat in many ways and his production will continue to grow in the next couple of seasons.
Overall: Altogether, Hudson is a great player for the Archers and will continue to improve on both sides of the ball in the coming years. He is a solid defender with great hands and a knockdown shooter from outside with excellent court vision. Watch for Hudson’s advancements next season.
