During the 2019-20 season, Janke helped lead the Lake City Timberwolves by contributing big points, minutes, and being a floor general and leader for the team. In the upcoming season, Ben will look to lead Lake City to a district championship and a shot at making the state tournament. Continue reading for a breakdown of Janke’s skills and abilities on both ends of the floor.
Defense: Janke is a tough defender for the Timberwolves. He guards the ball with a lot of energy and effort and can usually get at least a few steals per game simply from applying ball pressure. He makes great reads from help side and is good at making sure that he is in the right places at the right times. He runs through passing lanes when he sees a weak pass is thrown and he loves to turn that defense into an offensive fast break. Against bigger players, Janke holds his own and battles in the post. He consistently forces posts off of the block and makes them take difficult shots. He is a feisty defender that plays hard every single possession. Janke crashes the offensive and defensive boards hard and picks up at least a couple of boards per game.
Offense: Ben is an offensive threat from all levels when he is on the floor. Janke likes to push the ball in transition and he finishes exceptionally well at the rim. He can finish with either hand and he likes to draw contact which allows him to get to the free throw line for easy points. He has a deadly jumper from the perimeter that he shoots when he is open and is an efficient scorer from deep. He usually utilizes a pump fake to get defenders off balance before he shoots a pull-up jumper or gets all the way to the rim. Janke is an excellent passer that routinely finds the right person at the right time.
Overall: Ben is a great player for the Timberwolves. Defensively, he can guard any player and plays hard every single possession. Offensively, Janke is a threat from anywhere on the court and he can score at will. Janke would make an excellent 1 or 2 guard at the next level.
