This expo gave several players the opportunity to showcase their skill set and also give viewers a chance to see the next wave of talent on the rise. Here are five prospects that stood out most amongst the rest of the pack at the Top 250 Expo this past weekend that you should keep eyes on from here on out.
Keynan Russell – 6’9 – Power Forward/Center – Frisco Wakeland – 2021
Keynan Russell is a point guard trapped in a big man’s body. This extremely versatile, high IQ, pass first center destroyed his competition with his outstanding play. Russell consistently snatched down rebounds and pushed the ball up the court or threw an accurate full-court pass right on the money leading to multiple quick, easy buckets. The best aspect of his game is his elite court vision, Keynan has the ability to quickly kick the ball out to an open teammate or dish it to a cutter. Anytime he came down the floor, he did an excellent job of establishing himself with his very strong and unmovable lower base. Russell showed good poise and patience with the ball in the post, he waited for the defense to react before making his move to score, he even has that rare combination of power and soft-touch on his shots in the post. Don’t leave him open from deep either, especially on a pick-and-pop or he will make you pay. Defensively, he made it look effortless protecting the rim, he either went up with two hands or swatted the ball in the air before it came down, displaying great hands, eyes, timing. This postman will be on our Prep Hoops 2021 rankings board before the year is over, remember the name, Keynan Russell.
Amine Bensalah – 6’7 – Power Forward – Spring Creek Academy – 2021
This lefty is a point forward with some serious game. Amine was one of the most versatile players in attendance, he showed and proved that he can handle the ball as well as most guards, can give a tremendous effort when defending, can put the ball in the basket in more ways than one, can facilitate and create for others, and can also rebound at a high rate. Bensalah controlled the broads in each game, he would grab the rebound and take the ball coast to coast finishing with a layup. Amine scored in every way possible, he either posted up and got a bucket in the paint, or put the ball on the floor, crossed his defender over, and got to his sweet spots where he was very efficient. Amine Bensalah has minor limitations to his game that can easily become strengths, he’s a true hidden gem that made his name known at this expo.
Finley Bizjack Finley Bizjack 6'5" | CG Byron Nelson | 2023 State #131 Nation TX – 6’4 – Shooting Guard – Byron Nelson – 2023
Finley showed a different aspect of his game this past weekend, setting guys up all day long. Bizjack put his full playmaking ability on display with the way he created for others. He got inside the lane so easy and so often that he began to attract every defender’s attention, which opened the lane up for cutters where he was able to pick up multiple assists each game. A truly relentless attacker with an elite burst of quickness and a deadly first step, Bizjack got to the basket whenever he wanted to, he beat guys off of the baseline and broke down any defender that came his way. As usual, Finley was incredibly unstoppable in one-on-one situations, there is no stopping him from creating a shot for himself, I have yet to see anyone guard him effectively. His ability to process information quickly is highly impressive and might be what makes him so good.
Kylin Green Kylin Green 6'0" | PG Lewisville | 2021 State TX – 6’0 – Point Guard – Lewisville High School – 2021
Kylin Green Kylin Green 6'0" | PG Lewisville | 2021 State TX was the floor general for his team, he gave them everything they needed when they needed it most. He played tough, lockdown defense, and created offense for his squad whether it was scoring or distributing. Kylin came ready to play, he went right at anyone that was thrown in front of him both offensively and defensively. He played with a serious hunger to his game, showing good aggression and a will to win. This explosive point guard can get out and destroy a team in the open court where his athleticism and court vision is hard to match up with. Kylin Green Kylin Green 6'0" | PG Lewisville | 2021 State TX played like a true senior, showing good leadership, staying feisty, and motivated even when his team didn’t play up to his standards. His heart and passion for the game showed in his play and he left it all out there on the floor.
Amier Ali – 6’8 – Shooting Guard/Small Forward – Spring Creek Academy – 2024
Amier Ali’s offensive skill level is just ridiculous for a freshman, he can break his man’s ankles with a multitude of moves and also shoot it from every spot on the court no matter how deep; most efficient when shooting from the wings. This guard was unstoppable in the open court, his length and long strides constantly created openings for him to get to the rack. Amier was an automatic bucket, the game just came so easy to him. Sometimes he seemed to be more of a facilitator than a scorer. He was a remarkable playmaker, Ali made the guys around him better, a very gifted and talented passer, his height allowed him to see over the defense to distribute the ball whenever he wanted to. Amier Ali is just getting started, he going to be a top 20 player in the state and will likely become a top 10 player when it’s all said and done.
