This expo gave several players the opportunity to showcase their skill set and also give viewers a chance to see the next wave of talent on the rise. Here are a few noteworthy Collin County recruits that stood out most amongst the rest of the pack at the Top 250 Expo.
Paul Cornell – 6’1 – Combo Guard – Sachse – 2023
Did a little back of everything out there, an extremely active player, Cornell found ways to contribute in every way possible, he played solid defense, locking guys down on the perimeter, he made the right passes, he consistently crashed the boards, and he went after loose balls, showing a willingness to put his body on the line for his team. Paul usually has a knack for scoring, but on this day his shot was a bit off. His shot not falling just made him play even harder, determined to make an impact on the game. Cornell kept his confidence high, continuing to take smart and open shots. I loved how he didn’t quit or get too down on himself whenever things didn’t go his way, he just stayed positive, reassured himself, and found other ways to stand out. Paul Cornell is a raw talent prospect that plays with great effort on every possession.
R.J. Chatman R.J. Chatman 5'10" | PG Sachse | 2023 State TX – 5’10 – Point Guard – Sachse – 2023
Chatman came out and put his versatility as a scorer and a guard on full display at this expo. R.J. proved to be as effective at the off-guard position as he is at the point guard position. As usual, he displayed a great feel for the game, Chatman was a true threat to put the ball in the hoop as soon as he crossed half-court. A versatile scorer that had no problem at all getting his shot off against some of the top defenders at the camp. This guard continues to prove that he can score from any spot on the court by either creating his own shot off the dribble or knocking down his catch-and-shoot opportunities, he’s also doing a very good job of spotting up from deep as well. One of the best things about R.J. Chatman R.J. Chatman 5'10" | PG Sachse | 2023 State TX is the fact that he always finds a way to show that he’s the smartest player on the floor, his ability to anticipate what will happen next is uncanny. He took charges perfectly, at the right times, and made quick passes when the defense was slacking or not paying attention. R.J. Chatman R.J. Chatman 5'10" | PG Sachse | 2023 State TX doesn’t have a ceiling, this young man is going to be as great as he wants to be.
Dylan Soto – 5’11 – Shooting Guard – Allen High School – 2023
Dylan Soto went out there and did what he does best, knockdown spot-up three-pointers. Soto can be a lethal shooter from deep, especially when he gets hot. Although he loves the three-ball, he still made good shot selections. Dylan also showed and proved that he is comfortable shooting wide-open or with a hand in his face. He even showed the ability to run the point guard position with the way he drove and kicked. If Dylan Soto can continue to improve his handles it’ll open up his entire game.
