This expo gave several players the opportunity to showcase their skill set and also give viewers a chance to see the next wave of talent on the rise. Here are a few prospects that stood out most amongst the rest of the pack at the Top 250 Expo.
Champ Calamese – 5’10 – Point Guard – Little Rock Central – 2023
This deadly lefty’s three-point shots were money in the bank all day long. Champ was an absolute sniper from deep during this expo, a very consistent stroke from beyond the arc, anytime he caught the ball in rhythm with space, he knocked his shot down. Calamese showed and proved that he could score in every way possible, on all three levels, due to his ability to read the defenses so well and play off of what they were giving him. Champ Calamese is a natural shooter with great intangibles that can be an extremely effective three-point shooter either off the dribble or in a catch-and-shoot situation.
Daelyn Lewis – 6’0 – Point Guard – Mansfield Lake Ridge – 2024
Not many had luck slowing Daelyn Lewis down in the open court, his quickness matched with his elusive handles proved to be problematic for most teams he faced. He gets low on his dribble making him incredibly difficult to stay in front of and keep out of the lane, even if he didn’t score or put a shot up he consistently found ways to touch the paint. Lewis also controlled the pace of play well, he knew when to push the ball and when to slow the offense down. Daelyn Lewis showed unselfishness as well, he did an exceptional job of keeping his teammates happy, he fed guys when they were open and set guys up with scoring opportunities before looking for his own.
Garrett Nuckolls Garrett Nuckolls 6'5" | SG Bullard | 2023 State TX – 6’6 – Shooting Guard – LaPoyner – 2023
Garrett Nuckolls Garrett Nuckolls 6'5" | SG Bullard | 2023 State TX was one of the purest shooters of his class, showing near limitless range. He was a true threat from anywhere beyond the three-point line, always ready to shoot, staying in position, and letting it fly anytime his hands touched the ball. Garrett has such an effortless release, the ball comes off his hands smoothly each time he shoots it. You never really know when he’s going to pull-up either, he can get the ball up and out extremely quickly. When defenses began to close out on his jump shots he started attacking the lane, getting layup after layup, showing the ability to beat a man off the bounce. Garrett Nuckolls Garrett Nuckolls 6'5" | SG Bullard | 2023 State TX continues to impress with his high-level offensive skills.
Kamal Brooks – 6’0 – Combo Guard – Red Oak High School – 2024
Kamal Brooks was a true lockdown defender that is not phased by any fancy moves, he sits in front of his man and gives little to no space. To no one’s surprise, Kamal was one of the toughest players in the building sacrificing his body for the ball, taking charges, going after rebounds, and hustling extremely hard. When it comes to defense, Brooks always gives a consistent effort, he showed great focus when attempting to keep his man from getting the ball. One thing is for sure, no matter what happens Kamal Brooks will always give his all and nothing but, on the defensive end.
