Bryce Coleman Bryce Coleman 6'6" | SF Proviso East | 2023 State IL (St. Joseph – 2023)
Coleman has grown up to 6’6” and the top 5 prospect was excellent in the opener. He has a strong build, but maintains his athleticism. Very high skill level out of this Catholic League wing. He drilled an array of threes looking super smooth and effortless off the release. Also got loose a few times in transition for scores. Defensively he can check multiple spots and is a shot blocker from his wing position.
Kaden Brown (Grand Rapids Catholic Central, MI – 2023)
The point guard from Michigan opened our eyes in the two games we caught him on Saturday. Plus shooter that made shots from all over the court and has a good overall feel for the game with his creativity and playmaking ability. Pushes in the open floor and threw a few nice dimes.
Matas Buzelis Matas Buzelis 6'9" | SF Sunrise Christian | 2023 #2 Nation NLG (Hinsdale Central – 2023)
Buzelis rose up over 20 spots to #8 in our most recent PHI update and honestly he should be ranked higher after seeing him again on Saturday. He has legit size at 6’8” with plus athleticism and skill. Frame to continue to add strength and fill out. The Hinsdale Central standout has a feathery three point stroke along with being an excellent passer. Makes sound decisions both in the half court and transition. Threw down a couple monster dunks including a poster over a near seven footer. Defensively he contested at the rim too. Can play multiple positions from the one through four which is very impressive!
Cyr Malonga (Evangel Christian, KY – 2023)
First time seeing this 6’11” five man from Kentucky. He brings a brute strength that is beyond imposing for a player so young. Has some N’Faly Dante to his game at the same stage. Stands out most right now as a rim protector doing it against guards and fellow big men. Goes after rebounds aggressively at their high point. Offensively he has good hands in traffic and threw down several slams. Later in the day he even stepped out to hit a three. Nice outlet passer as well.
Javonte Taylor Javonte Taylor 6'7" | PF Donda Academy | 2023 #41 Nation CA-S (Kenwood – 2023)
The top 2023 prospect in the state of Illinois lived up to that billing at the camp. This 6’8” new age face up four shined in both of his hyped matchups against either in-state or national post prospects. His versatility and ability to be a complete mismatch makes him special. Can take his man out on the perimeter going around or right by them for scores at the cup. When he needs to he uses his quickness and bounce to score in the paint. Also was effective with his second jump throughout the day getting on the offensive glass. For a big man he handles very well being able to go coast to coast like a guard. Even showed a bit of passing flair.
Darrin Ames Darrin Ames 6'1" | PG Kenwood | 2023 State #99 Nation IL (Kenwood – 2023)
Ames was about as good as we have seen him. His game is made for settings like this. The left handed thin bodied lead guard can flat out get buckets. That is exactly what he did throughout the camp. Slithered through the defense for layups. His three ball was falling at a nice clip so he kept pulling up from deep for those. Pushes it with speed in the open floor either getting to the rim or finding teammates for buckets. He has that “it” factor you just can’t teach.
Ahmad Henderson Ahmad Henderson 5'10" | PG Brother Rice | 2023 State #291 Nation IL (Brother Rice – 2023)
Henderson shined this summer with the Illinois Hoopstars and had two primetime performances on a big stage. The 5’9” lead guard drilled three after three after three. Shifty playmaker that works well around ball screens either driving, shooting, or dishing. One of the better Catholic League guards next season regardless of class.
Miles Rubin Miles Rubin 6'7" | PF Homewood Flossmoor | 2023 State #243 Nation IL (Homewood Flossmoor – 2023)
Rubin emerged with Chicago Lockdown and he showed again how legit he is as a prospect. The 6’7” four man brings mobility on both ends of the floor. Lefty knocked down a baseline jumper, had a spin move, and finished in the pick/roll. Little tentative at times, but he has so much upside. Quick off the floor for rebounds and has timing as one of the better shot blockers in the state.
Brock Harding Brock Harding 6'0" | PG Moline | 2023 State #222 Nation IL (Moline – 2023)
Harding looked good at the Stealth Runs and continued his momentum from that event. The floor general worked well in ball screen situations reading them and making sound decisions off of them. Good entry passer to his post players. Knocked down mid-range jumpers for days. Overall nice feel for the game.
James Brown (St. Rita – 2024)
Brown has been hyped as the best incoming freshman in the state. This was my first time seeing him and he definitely has the look of a #1 overall guy. At 6’8” he has great strength, but is very light on his feet for how big he is. Powerful finisher that mauls his opponents with power moves. Also shows his athleticism in the pick and roll along with running the floor hard. High level rebounder that grabbed them at a great rate in his area.
Solomon Mosley (St. Rita – 2023)
Mosley is a 6’7” four man that played with a lot of energy throughout the day. He high pointed rebounds in traffic. Quick to the glass for put backs and flashed some skill around the hoop with a hook shot.
Owen Freeman Owen Freeman 6'10" | C Moline | 2023 State #179 Nation IL (Bradley Bourbonnais – 2023)
Freeman at 6’9” is among the best post prospects in the class. Rebounded about as well as anyone we saw at the camp. High motor kid that was relentless on the boards and protecting the rim. He racked up quite a few blocks in the paint along with contesting on the perimeter against shooters. Mobility on the defensive end is going to be something that college coaches love about this prospect. Offensively he has major bounce in the paint along with touch when he needs to use it.
Bailey Woods (Hampshire – 2023)
Woods came out of nowhere. The lefty two guard erupted drilling an array of threes along with showing he could put it on the deck. Angular guard that hits the hole in the defense getting to the rim for scores.
Jackson Kotecki Jackson Kotecki 6'9" | PF Saint Ignatius | 2023 State IL (St. Ignatius – 2023)
Kotecki had a strong second game against another one of the best posts in the 2023 class. At 6’7” this post prospect has the ability to step out to drill a three showing off his skill. Used his power game inside with spin moves and a reverse layup. Snatched rebounds throughout and contested shots from guards and post players in the paint.
Baye Fall (Lutheran, CO – 2023)
Fall came into the camp as one of the highest rated national prospects in attendance. In the one game we saw you can see why he is such a coveted player. The 6’11” five man is all arms and legs. Very athletic for his size which was shown with how well he ran the floor. All in one motion he ran the floor, caught a pass, spin move, and dunked it. Has the frame to add more strength which he will need to do going forward. Elite level shot blocker and defender.
Maki Johnson (Huntington Prep, WV – 2023)
We had heard some buzz about this wing, but were blow away with his game. Johnson at about 6’4” was one of the best passers at the camp. He displayed creativity and flair dishing the rock for assists in both transition and the half court. Also got to the hoop for a few scores. High level playmaker with the rock in his hands.
Dalen Davis Dalen Davis 6'0" | PG Whitney Young | 2023 State #167 Nation IL (Whitney Young – 2023)
Davis is a top 10 prospect in the Illinois 2023 class. He had a quiet start to his last game, but then got it rolling. His stop and pop jumper is a major force in his game. Drilled deep threes along with 15 footers with regularity. It was his ability to get to the rim whenever he wanted that shined the most. He has a burst with the ball in his hands and an instinctive ability to finish through and around big men despite his smaller stature.
