Southern California is usually well-represented at the camp which consists of various drills and guest speakers as well as five-on-five competition. This year, due to ongoing restrictions on youth sporting events, the camp will be held the weekend of Nov. 7-8 in Phoenix Arizona as the Pangos All-American Festival, and well feature considerably less players than in years past.
There are only a couple of players from SoCal that will be in attendance on the West roster that features players from other surrounding areas such as Washington, Nevada, and Utah. Here’s a quick preview of the SoCal players you should be watching for at the event.
1. K.J. Simpson – Chaminade 2021
Simpson has committed to Arizona and has emerged as one of the top wing prospects in SoCal. He might not look like it, but he’s deceptively strong as a guard, especially when it comes to crashing the glass. He’s a knockdown shooter from three-point range. In transition, he can either go all the way to rim, or knock down pull-up jumpers. He’s a good passer to and is able to draw defensive attention to make plays for his teammates.
2. T.J. Wainwright – Westchester 2021
Wainwright recently completed his first season with the Comets, and he’s got a few D1 offers. He’s a flat out scorer/shooter in every sense of the words. He routinely shows his craftiness when it comes to scoring and he has the ability to light it up from anywhere on the court. He’s incredibly tough to guard when he has it going offensively. The lefty scorer can knock down jumpers with defenders in his face. He can also get to the rim and finish as well.
3. Wilhelm Breidenbach Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'8" | PF Mater Dei | 2021 State #91 Nation CA-S – Mater Dei 2021
A Nebraska commit, Breidenbach is an intriguing big man who gets better every time I’ve watched him play. He moves very well without the ball. He makes strong cuts to the basket and is always ready to catch a pass from a teammate. He finishes well at the rim and uses his size to go up hard and shoot over defenders. Although he’s a big man he can handle the ball a bit and make plays off the dribble. Good in transition. He can shoot a little bit from distance too.
