→ Johnson retains the top spot in the latest rankings update, and the lead is his as long as he continues on his current trajectory. He has both the talent and body of work to his credit, earning the PHOK newcomer of the year in 2020 after a stellar freshman campaign at P.C. North, Johnson has a range of skills at his disposal. He’s exceptionally quick with good vision for the floor to locate and determine potential playmaking lanes. He finishes well with either hand, can play above the rim, and can shoot the ball well. Johnson also has great confidence when shooting the ball behind the arch, and hardly second-guesses scoring opportunities. Included with his offensive package is great passing abilities and conservative playmaking skills.
No. 2 — Brandon Garrison Brandon Garrison 6'8" | C Evans | 2023 State #33 Nation OK | Del City C |
→ Garrison debuted at No. 2 in our latest rankings update after a remarkable sophomore summer, and his ducks are in a row; an established name, an expanded role for his high school team and improved skills all spell success for the 6-foot-8-inch powerhouse. He is a two-way difference-maker, with great stature, mobility and some improved confidence to help him make plays at the high school level. He emerged out of his shell offensively, especially, during the summer, showcasing more aggressive attacking, quicker wits with the ball in his hands, and some polished skills as a paint-scorer. Defensively, however, is where his most advantageous tools lay. He has the athleticism to throw a block party every night at Del City next season with the iQ to remain within himself in the foul count.
No. 3 — Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6'3" | SG Mustang | 2023 State OK | Mustang SG |
→ One of the best two-sport stars the of recent memory, basketball is only Johnson’s second talent. Currently, he is spending his Friday nights hauling-in jump balls on fades and snatching passes from opposing quarterbacks. He has a smooth two-way game on the hard-wood, as well. A strong, physical guard, Johnson has just as much finesse as he has power on the offensive end, and he can score with the best of ’em, either on the attack to the rim, using his footwork in the mid-range or knocking down defense-stretching shots from college range. Defensively, Johnson has had little trouble staying in front of even the shiftiest guards in the state.
No. 4 — Parker Friedrichsen Parker Friedrichsen 6'4" | SG Bixby | 2023 State #165 Nation OK | Bixby SG |
→ There’s no gimmick here; Friedrichsen is one of the best shooters in the state, and he still has three years left to solidify himself. His sophomore summer proved that he can still knock down big shots against the most touted competition, and even established himself among the best up-and-coming sharpshooting prospects in the country. Though his shooting skills are his bread-and-butter, he still has plenty of upside outside of his range. Friedrichsen is fantastic with hitting acrobatic shots at tricky angles, and his hand-work is mightily underrated as his frequent trips to the interior were rarely disadvantageous for him.
No. 5 — Trent Pierce Trent Pierce 6'6" | SF Union | 2023 State #73 Nation OK | Union SF |
Pierce is a classic do-it-all forward with the talents to become a highly sought-after recruit in the years to come. He is increasingly mobile, showing weekend-to-weekend improvements in agility, acceleration and vision for the floor. As a scorer, Pierce can do everything you need from him as a stretch-forward. He can knock down shots out of the catch, score through traffic, play above the rim and get a bucket with his back to the goal. Defensively, his 6-foot-5-inch frame with a lengthy wingspan helps him to keep ball-handlers in front of him on the perimeter, while his bouncy athleticism ensures that any bucket near the rim is a bucket well-earned.
