Pawpa has a really solid arsenal with tremendous upside that left me scratching my head, thinking how have I not heard of this kid before? He can stop on a dime and is a well-coordinated shot-maker standing about 6-foot-1-inches. A talented athlete, Pawpa was able to get to the rim and score with craft during the one-on-one session, and showcased the same reliability during the live session. He also passed the ball pretty well and was able to find his teammates in the post. Defensively, Pawpa was just as effective, using his speed and vision for the floor to swipe away passes and score on the opposite end.
Malik Laurent — McAlester 2021 C |
A big-bodied defender with remarkable explosive strength, Laurent was the defensive standout of the morning camp in a straight-up block party that may have been as close to Shaq-esque I have seen in Oklahoma. He has great stature, standing at 6-foot-7-inches, 220 pounds with surprising mobility and, of course, elevation. Offensively, he can improve his touch around the rack to score, but his skill-set is otherwise pretty solid.
Nolan Edmundson — Hulbert 2021 SG |
Edmundson was one of the craftiest, most offensively disciplined and craftiest scorers at the combine. He has coordination with both hands, balance to put moves on defenders and patience to score the ball near the rim with his catalog of moves. Edmundson also shot the ball pretty well at the event from the catch, and though his scoring attack was not the fastest, it was one of the smoothest.
Robert Gambill — Choctaw 2022 PF |
Though I had seen Gambill some on film, I had not had such a concentrated look at his skill-set until the showcase, and he was quite impressive. His game has great upside, he can score the ball on the post-up, his vision is very mature and he can knock down shots from the perimeter. Gambill’s iQ offensively bodes well for his future recruiting, as he can pass the ball well from the paint, create spacing on the perimeter and more. Defensively, though he was not always more athletic than his post match-up, he was routinely capable of limiting those players from scoring and protecting the rim from opposing slashers.
