With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top point guards in Class B:
Jase Crockett Jase Crockett 5'10" | PG Northern Cass | 2021 State ND , Northern Cass
Northern Cass should be viewed as a darkhorse outfit in a stacked Region 1 thanks in large part to the presence of Crockett, who is the best guard in the area. One of the most dynamic pure scorers in the state, Crockett can fill it up from the 3-point line, get to the rim and finish over length and make plays for his teammates. He does a great job setting the tone on the defensive end of the floor as well, putting pressure on opposing ballhandlers and bringing great energy.
Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND , Beulah
Brandt was an all-stater as a sophomore, averaging 21 points, six rebounds and four assists for a top-ranked Beulah club. He took on a much larger scoring role with some less-experienced guys breaking into the lineup, and showed he can set the tone on both ends of the floor. His scoring may not go up a whole lot this winter as more of his teammates take steps forward in that area, but his ability to influence the game on both ends of the floor is as great as any individual lead guard in Class B.
Stevan Garza Stevan Garza 6'2" | SG Grafton | 2021 State ND , Grafton
Garza was one of the best guards in a loaded Region 2 last season, averaging 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists for a Grafton team that won 18 games and advanced to the Region 2 semifinals. He’s one of the best players in the state when it comes to controlling the game, as he does a great job controlling the tempo and knowing when to attack versus knowing when to get his teammates involved. He’s smooth off the bounce and can shoot it efficiently from the 3-point line.
Caleb Duffield Caleb Duffield 5'10" | PG Bowman County | 2021 State ND , Bowman County
Duffield has been a big-time scorer for the Bulldogs for a while now and he’ll have the reigns this winter. He’s more of a combo guard than a pure point, but his ability to pile up points in a hurry – from anywhere on the floor – makes the game easier for his teammates. He’s improved as a playmaker over the last year and change too. Region 7 is consistently one of the toughest in the state and if Bowman County is going to be in the mix out there, Duffield will be a major influence.
Jesse White Jesse White 5'11" | PG White Shield | 2021 State ND , White Shield
White earned all-state honors as a junior, averaging 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists per game for a solid White Shield team. White is one of the most dynamic players in Class B, possessing the athleticism and skill to score from all over the floor. He can impact the game defensively; he rebounds and he’s a terrific playmaker. He might be the state’s top scorer this winter.
