With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top point guards in Class A:
Carson Lamp Carson Lamp 6'0" | SG Jamestown | 2021 State ND , Jamestown
Lamp might be more of a combo guard than a true point but he’s the floor general for the Bluejays and will be tasked with a lot of the playmaking responsibility. He’s arguably the best returning player in the state and the favorite to win the Player-of-the-Year in the WDA. He’s rock-solid in just about every area of the game, as he’s a terrific defender on the perimeter and can blend his scoring and distributing effectively.
Deonte Martinez Deonte Martinez 5'10" | PG Minot | 2021 State ND , Minot
Martinez has been among the best point guards in the state since his sophomore season and will have the keys to the whole thing this winter, as he’s the only returning starter for the Magicians. He’s a tone-setter on both ends of the floor, pushing the tempo and getting into the paint at will offensively while putting pressure on the ball defensively. Expect big numbers this winter.
Max Tschosik Max Tschosik 5'9" | PG Bismarck | 2021 State ND , Bismarck
Bismarck will head into this season with state title aspirations and on a team that plays with incredible energy and havoc, Tschosik is the perfect calming influence at the point guard spot. He’s a steady hand with the ball when it comes to making the right plays, and his ability to stretch the defense with his perimeter jumper creates opportunities for some of his teammates.
Barika Kpeenu Barika Kpeenu 5'11" | PG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND , West Fargo Sheyenne
One of the best football recruits in the state, Kpeenu is also one of the top returning basketball players in the EDC. A rotation piece for the Mustangs last year, Kpeenu will ascend into a feature role this winter as the first guy in line in the effort to replace three double-figure perimeter scorers from a year ago. He’s one of the best on-ball defenders in the league and will spearhead a defense that should be among the best in the state and his ability to get into the paint and make plays makes the game easier for his teammates.
Tristin Davis Tristin Davis 6'2" | PG Turtle Mountain | 2021 State ND , Turtle Mountain
Davis took a big step forward in his junior season, averaging nearly 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. He was a standout in an abbreviated grassroots season with ND Phenom, doing a lot of the same things – defending, rebounding, pushing the tempo, scoring from the mid-range and making plays. He’s a big, athletic guard who can guard multiple perimeter positions and his ability to get where he wants on the floor allows him to score or facilitate at a high level.
