West New York is no exception, although they rarely get media attention. Here, we take a look at some of the best in the West who made it onto our rankings.
48. Lamar Matthews | Tapestry Charter
Lamar Matthews has done his job as the star guard for Tapestry Charter, and Tapestry Charter definitely felt his presence on the court. Matthews has been elite in the qualities most applicable to any point guard, including being able to push the ball at a remarkably fast pace down the court, even moving through a set defense, while being able to slow down his movement to sacrifice for his handles, which too can get defenses. His defense at the other end makes him a strength, and gives his team golden opportunities for fastbreaks.
86. Isaiah Lariosa Isaiah Lariosa 6'2" | CG New Hyde Park | 2022 State NY | Niagara Wheatfield
All year, Isaiah Lariosa Isaiah Lariosa 6'2" | CG New Hyde Park | 2022 State NY has been a weapon for Niagara Wheatfield, and he has definitely had a direct impact on the team’s successes. His shooting from the corner is both efficient and volumnous, meaning he can both achieve few misses per game while being able to shoot, and make, multiple buckets per game. His spacing has an indirect effect on success as well, as his corner presence allows the floor to be open for the team’s bigs and guards.
2. Massai Graham Massai Graham 6'7" | SF Springfield Commonwealth | 2022 State NLG | Tapestry Charter
So far, the theme we have been seeing with the majority of these West New York players is that they rarely come with media attention. If that’s the case, then Massai Graham Massai Graham 6'7" | SF Springfield Commonwealth | 2022 State NLG is surely an outlier. Graham came over as an import from South Carolina, and he not only carved out a role on Tapestry Charter, but made a name for himself in New York as a premier Division I caliber player. His pure scoring ability, even when he is double-teamed, should find itself on a college roster in the near future.
124. Wayne Libby Wayne Libby 5'11" | SF Pine Valley | 2022 State NY | Pine Valley
Small forwards are known for having qualities both expected partially in guards and partially in bigs, and it’s these mashup of skills that give small forwards their insane shooting power. Wayne Libby Wayne Libby 5'11" | SF Pine Valley | 2022 State NY of Pine Valley has spent his season proving that he is no exception. He can shoot at a decent clip, take the ball and penetrate to the rim, or seemingly transform into a center and score in the paint. He is also a double double player, meaning he can use his height effectively and tear up both boxes.
102. Andrew Zhou Andrew Zhou 6'1" | CG Syossett | 2022 State NY | Sweet Home
Andrew Zhou Andrew Zhou 6'1" | CG Syossett | 2022 State NY has modeled his game to get his best offensive success, and looking at his skills, it’s clear he thought about what he needs, and practically perfected them for on-court use. Brown has handles like no other, and can use them to get by multiple defenders to the rim. His speed makes him a weapon on fastbreaks, and he somehow found a way to get his handles working even in stride, making him with the ball deadly.
132. Gabe McCoy Gabe McCoy 6'5" | C Randolph | 2022 State NY | Randolph
Despite only being a young sophomore last year with many of his 2022 brethren, Gabe McCoy Gabe McCoy 6'5" | C Randolph | 2022 State NY has demonstrated that his game, if anything, is as polished and refined as a big man’s game is. McCoy is a consistent force on the defensive glass and is able to be a player on the second-chance points spectrum, while his best ability is him running the floor and catching lobs and throwing them down, making him almost unstoppable.
