Continue ReadingMoving down “South”, I would like to look into some prospects who I believe stand a chance at making a (high) All-County team in Miami-Dade. As I have said in the past, this is not who I believe will make the team. More so, this list compiles players who I believe are best “bets” to land the nomination at the closure of the season.
Ronaldo Vescine Ronaldo Vescine 5'11" | CG North Miami | 2021 State FL – North Miami
Vescine has been mentioned many times on our site and for good reason. The 5-foot-11 point guard will be the Pioneers lead returning scorer after averaging 10.7 points per game as a junior. Vescine has shown to be a high volume player at getting to the basket and finishing with no fear of contact. The Pioneer floor leader has exceptional handles and demonstrates the ability to find creases in the paint to finish at the rim. With more of an opening, Vescine is will to get to his spot before a defender has the chance react. These traits encompass his athleticism and floor management as a seasoned point guard. Defenders also need to be weary of his quick release on 3-point attempts. Check out some of his highlights by clicking here.
Neil Schiff Neil Schiff 6'1" | CG Ransom Everglades | 2021 State FL – Randsom Everglades
Schiff put up numbers for the Raiders en route to a third-team section by the Miami-Herald. The 2021 shooting guard averaged 17.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game as a junior. Schiff might have been undervalued in his nomination as he posted eight games with 20 or more points. Against Mourning, Schiff posted a season-high 38 points and a whopping ten 3-pointers. The sniper from deep hit over 100 threes on the year. Credit the Raiders 24-5 record in large part to the play of Schiff. I expect a higher postseason nomination after his senior year is complete.
Jasai Miles Jasai Miles 6'5" | CG Miami Country Day | 2023 State #241 Nation FL – Miami Country Day
2023 Jasai Miles Jasai Miles 6'5" | CG Miami Country Day | 2023 State #241 Nation FL is a name you are going to hear about for years to come. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 16.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game last season for the Spartans. Reports have his height even taller than that at 6-foot-7. Miles can over-match his opponents with his size inside and create second chance opportunities. You can point to his ten double-digit rebound efforts last season as proof. Miles is an excellent pick to make first-team All-County and waltz the Spartans past its 14-13 record last season. A budding superstar here in Miami-Dade.
Carlos Taveras – Southwest (Miami)
Taveras was a bright spot on an Eagles squad that finished with a 4-19 record. The 2022 playmaker averaged 11.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Against Miami Beach, Taveras scored 26 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. The current junior has a knack to make plays around the glass after posting five games with double-digit boards a season ago. Taveras should become more of a name if he can help the Eagles to a few more W’s this fall.
Andy Chavez Andy Chavez 5'11" | PG Braddock | 2021 State FL – Braddock (Miami)
The Bulldogs played terrific last season behind the leadership of Chavez. The 5-foot-11 point guard averaged 12.3 points across 18 games. Against Palmetto, Chavez berated the Panthers for 34 points and five 3-pointers made. Moreover, Chavez finished with multiple 20-plus point games late last season. The Bulldog senior will look to carry that momentum into the fall. Look for him to vault up the post-season nomination chart as he leads Braddock to another winning season.
Gabriel Gonzalez Gabriel Gonzalez 6'0" | CG Divine Savior Academy | 2021 State FL – Divine Savior Academy
2021 Gabriel Gonzalez Gabriel Gonzalez 6'0" | CG Divine Savior Academy | 2021 State FL did it all for the Sharks last season. The 6-foot-1 combo guard averaged 16.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. In addition, Gonzalez posted just over four assists and two steals per contest. All of the previous figures led Divine Savior Academy. Therefore, Gonzalez was a big reason the Sharks posted a 19-5 record. The current senior consistently shows up for games, having scored in double-figures in 22 of 24 contests last season. Gonzalez should be a second-team selection at minimum this year.
