The Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo was held at MSA Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids yesterday. This was an outstanding event and the talent in the building was off of the charts. I will be evaluating every player that was from the Metro Detroit area through myself watching games and also looking at games a second time on BallerTV. Everyone showed up big time and the sky is the limit for you.
Jeffrey Snipes (2022, 6-0 Melvindale)
Snipes played with poise. He kept the flow of the offense going. He consistently filled the open spot on the floor. He made good cuts to the basket. He took the open shot. Defensive he played good positional defense and closed out consistently.
Donovan Weatherly (2023, 6-0 L’anse Creuse)
Weatherly has a very high basketball IQ. I know he is a shooting guard but at the expo he was playing a lot of point guard. He controlled the pace, rotated the ball, utilized his dribble, drive and dish, and was knocking down 3’s.
Keyon Menifield Keyon Menifield 6'2" | PG Flint Beecher | 2021 State MI Jr (2021, 6-2, Flint Beecher)
Menifield Jr is a definitely D1 ready. Colleges should be traveling to Flint Beecher in droves. He can do it all on the floor. I saw him consistently make the right pass, knock his mid-range shot, knock downs his 3’s and defensively he got after the man he was guarding. He even had some blocks.
Jaylen Adams Jaylen Adams 6'3" | SF West Bloomfield | 2021 State MI (2021, 6-3, West Bloomfield)
Adams ran the floor very well today. I was impressed with the way he played defense, challenging shots, getting deflections and steals. He plays hard and goes to the glass offensively and defensively. I also loved the way he attacked the rim.
Andrew Kimbrough (2024, 6-4, Madison Heights Lamphere)
This 2024 player is very skilled and he is only going to get better. He has outstanding jumping ability and is a good finisher. Once he learns the effort needed to play this game on an elite level he will shine. He needs to remember to never ever give up on a play.
Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'1" | PG L'anse Creuse North | 2021 State MI (2021, 6-1, L’anse Creuse North)
Johnson played the point at the expo. He was very good on the pick and roll. He played under control. He knew when to push and when to run offense. He has quick hands and gets deflections. He stays in front of his man defensively.
Daniel “Bugsy” Smythe (2024, 6-1, Orchard Lake St. Mary)
Smythe is able to rebound, push the ball and make pinpoint passes. He played a lot at the 2 position and ran the floor well. When he did play point was comfortable calling for the pick and roll. He has a tremendous upside. More effort is needed on the defensive end.
Arshad Walker (2021, 6-1, Berkeley)
Walker played point guard at the expo. Walker is good at taking the ball to the basket. Just as good guards should do he plays from baseline to baseline which means he rebounds. He has a nice looking jump shot with a nice arc. Defensively he loves to gamble but he is quick to recover.
Nathan Steinman (2022, 6-1, Clarkston)
Steinman played the 2 and 3 at the expo. I’m impressed with his help defense. I like the way he passes and cuts. He is constantly moving on offense. He has a nice looking shot with good rotation. He has a high basketball IQ. He also plays with poise and plays hard. When he makes a commitment to defense he will be a stopper.
