Therefore not many fell in the category of traditional ‘posts.’ But there were a handful of big men who demonstrated they can get it done in the lane and deserve recognition for their post play.
Here were the top senior posts at the showcase (listed in alphabetical order):
Andrew Brewer, Shawnee Mission South:
Brewer is a workhorse and selfless post. At 6-foot-5, he is a rebounding machine. He does the dirty work and lets the offense come to him. He has nice touch on his jumper and has good moves around the goal. He demonstrated his toughness and strength at the Expo, scoring on second-chance opportunities and working over less-physical opponents.
Miles Cole Miles Cole 6'9" | PF Link Year Prep - Branson, MO | 2021 State KS , Shawnee Mission North:
The tallest senior at the Expo, Cole stands 6-foot-9 and is a force around the goal. He showed off a turnaround hook shot that will be tough to stop. He can catch and score in the lane and moves well for his size. He is an active rebounder and shot blocker with great length.
Andrew Piper, Free State:
Piper is a big man. He plays bigger than his 6-foot-4 listed height. He is solid and plays with power. The up-and-down style of the Expo didn’t wear him out – he hustled to the end of the day, running the floor and making sure to patrol the lane on defense. He teamed well with forward Mason Belcher Mason Belcher 6'4" | PF Maize | 2022 State KS , passing well in the post and working off each other.
Will Townsend Will Townsend 6'8" | PF Shawnee Mission East | 2021 State KS , Shawnee Mission East:
The 6-foot-7 Townsend should be in for a big senior year. He combines height, physicality and athleticism. He has the classic big-man game of blocking shots at the rim, posting up and dominating the boards. But he also can shoot it, moves well and can face the basket. He showed at the Expo that he can pull in a rebound and effectively kick it ahead. He also showed the willingness to run the floor, where he hauled in passes and scored on the move.
