Some of the top names in the class were on display and despite the lack of age and experience, I can say this was the most impressive group at the camp.
Here is a group of names to be on the lookout for as the school season approaches.
Cade Phillips Cade Phillips 6'8" | PF Jacksonville | 2023 AL , 6’9 PF, Westbrook: The big man looked like the best player in the state in the class all day long. He checked all the boxes that you want to see in a big man. But the most impressive attribute he showed all day was his ability to communicate with his teammates. He is a high-level communicator on both ends of the floor from calling out screens to demanding the ball in the post. Skies the limit for this young prospect.
Drake James, 6’1 PG, Haleyville: This kid is the guy the opposing team yells “SHOOTER” every time he touches the ball from anywhere on the court. He showed an elite ability to shoot the basketball` whether off the catch or off the dribble. He had several moments throughout the day where he ran off 3 to 5 threes in a row including a game with 7 in a single half of play. Looking for more from this breakout prospect.
Win Miller Win Miller 6'3" | SF Vestavia Hills | 2023 State #240 Nation AL , 6’3 SG, Vestavia Hills: This kid is primed for a run at a D1 scholarship in a couple years. He has good size already for a wing player and as his athleticism continues to develop along with that effortless shooting stroke skies the limit. All of his attributes were on full display frequently throughout the camp.
RJ Johnson RJ Johnson 6'3" | PG Grissom | 2023 State #215 Nation AL , 6’3 PG, Grissom: Another kid who is vying for that #1 spot in the class had a very good showing throughout the day. His sure size and girth at the point guard position at this young age is superior. He has a very mature game which he showed as he overpowered many who tried to guard him. He has elite athleticism as he had several big-time dunks throughout the day.
Elijah Thrower Elijah Thrower 6'3" | SF Austin | 2023 State AL , 6’3 SF, Austin: A very good day for this good-looking prospect. In the moments I saw him he showed a very good motor with the willingness to take and make shots. He had several big rebounds in traffic and showed the ability to push and handle in the open court. Look for him to be a key piece for Austin this upcoming season.
