Here are some of the day’s top performers.
Rodrigo Farias Rodrigo Farias 6'2" | CG TSF Prep | 2024 GA , 2024, 6-1, PG, WD Muhammad
Farias possesses the kind of versatility and skill to easily play off the ball but his future appears as a high-level PG, easy-looking handle with an explosive first step, against a good wave of other 2024’s he scored with ease in both the half-court as well as out in transition where he routinely cruised past folks on the break, has range well out past the arc and a scorer’s mentality to attack first and ask questions later, looks like he has a frame to grow and add weight which could be devastating, any added length to match up defensively with other elite-level PG’s will only boost his already high stock, among the class’ top prospects in my view.
Chad Moodie Chad Moodie 6'7" | PF Grayson | 2023 State GA (pictured above), 2023, 6-7, PF, Grayson
As with the summer, Moodie’s skillset and effort were hard to miss, he gets up and down the floor like a guard, was easily one of the summer’s best all-around defenders near the basket and continued that Sunday, not just a defensive gem he’s got soft hands and nice touch in the mid-range to go with plenty of explosiveness near the cup, love his unselfishness in camp setting, passed up poor scoring chances to position himself for better looks and when he didn’t receive it crashed the boards or made a big play at the other end, a big-time riser for the Rams who will push to crack an already loaded frontcourt rotation for the Rams.
Jeremiah Wilkinson, 2024, 6-0, PG, Campbell
Went head to head with Farias and the two put on a good show both with their skill-sets as well as with plenty of verbal moxie on the defensive end, Wilkinson casts as a point guard, and his handle and effectiveness creating using the bounce affirm that, but I love his potential off the ball as well due to his great strength and frame already together with a veterans understanding of where to be to make a smart play, he can guard, rebound, pass and score from multiple spots, definitely one to watch in the class.
Matthew Stokes, 6-7, 2023, PF, Houston County
Stood out during the drill portion for his good frame and movement, loved what he brought when he went head to head with Cumberland Christian’s Gora Niang Gora Niang 6'8" | SF Central Pointe Christian | 2023 State FL , showed no letdown and outplayed the big guy in stretches, tough competitor in near the basket and can finish with regularity, still a work in progress offensively out past 10 feet but the upside with his defense and rebounding is impressive.
Isaiah West, 2023, 6-3, SG, Good Pasture (TN)
After a terrific summer with the 2023 Stars in which he, along with Chi Shannon Chi Shannon 6'6" | SG Chapel Hill | 2022 State GA , Chase Clemmons Chase Clemmons 5'11" | PG Gainesville | 2023 State #275 Nation GA and Ethan Davis Ethan Davis 6'5" | SF Collins Hill | 2023 #238 Nation GA consistently wowed and shined in their own moments, West was again hard to miss Sunday as he out-worked, out-hustled and in many cases out-played whoever was guarding, a tremendous leaper and athlete there’s much more to his game than that, has shooting range that’s ongoing in its shape, so his spectacular wing play and defense will be the shining aspects for now, but if this Stars group stays together he and his mates will bring in a ton of eyeballs next grassroots season and he’ll assuredly be hard to miss then as well.
Jimma James, 2023, 6-4, PG Solid Rock
Playing outside the GHSA only means staffs will be doing a bit more homework to seek out and find James and his other impressive mates at SRA, although many are known commodities already (big men Daniel Umoh Daniel Umoh 6'10" | C Solid Rock Academy | 2022 GA and Felix and David Okapara among them), many of us there scouting were getting our first look at James and he was perhaps the day’s breakout star, there wasn’t much he couldn’t do with ease at the offensive end, blowing by defenders off the dribble, rising above forwards at the cup and attacking the teeth of the defense for scoring chances or laying it off to teammates, his court vision was almost too good in spots for kids in an unfamiliar scrimmage environment to adapt to but to anyone watching it was an impressive aspect of his game, on his way to big things.
