In Pennsylvania, there is always an added sense of excitement in the Philadelphia area, one of the nation’s hotbeds for the best high school talent.
However, in the first of a three-part series, we go just outside of the area to the Bicentennial Conference to look at some of the juniors to watch, starting in the Constitution Division.
Iman Jackson, PG Jenkintown: Jackson possesses a lot of valuable traits to be looked at the next level for a point guard, the first of which being his shooting prowess. He looks really confident when he steps into a three and that shows just in his confidence and his ability to knock down shots. He plays great off-ball on both sides of the ball and he uses his court vision as a point guard to his advantage on defense, creating turnovers and fast break opportunities, many times that he finishes himself.
Chris Evans Chris Evans 6'3" | SG Neumann-Goretti | 2021 State PA , SG Faith Christian Academy: Evans loves the ball in his hands because he’s a shot creator and a frequent scorer for Faith Christian. Handling the ball on the perimeter, he’s not confined to any one shot. If he sees the open lane, he’s driving in and weaving his way for points. If not, he’s taking the open look outside or he’s dishing the ball off to a teammate. Evans really shines on defense, a very pesky, but efficient defender who loves to make his presence felt by creating turnovers and just being a nuisance to the opposition.
Peyton Curry, SF/PF Faith Christian Academy: Curry lives near the block as a versatile forward, but that’s allowed him to work on perfecting his game on the defensive side of the ball, which he excels at. Curry has a great ability to extend his frame and make himself bigger than he actually is, creating bad shots from the offense or a steal or block. He creates turnovers constantly, resulting in fast break opportunities and scoring opportunities.
Jackson Mott, G/F Plumstead Christian: Mott has all the look and feel of a JJ Redick-type player, a Duncan Robinson archetype with a bit more flare to his game. He doesn’t live or die off the three, but he takes them and sinks them in bunches. There is plenty more to his game, like on the defensive end, a big presence and someone who will step up on the ball-handler and block a shot or steal a pass. His name will be circulating a lot this season just based off his sophomore year tape alone. He has the talent to be an x-factor and an elite shooter.
Nicholas Phillipps, G Plumstead Christian: Phillipps compliments the Plumstead Christian offense well, a spot-up shooter who moves well off-ball. He’s a trusted teammate who can sink a clutch shot late if the ball gets in his hands and he looks confident from just about anywhere on the court. Additionally, Phillipps has added assets on the defensive end, a stalwart who is able to create turnovers when his team needs it most.
