There were many California teams including many of the top teams from the San Diego area.
Here were some of the So-Cal junior standouts:
Donovan Dent Donovan Dent 6'1" | PG Corona Centennial | 2022 State CA-S Corona Centennial (Prime 17 Elite) (Pictured)
-A pure PG who can score it from all 3 levels and is a top defender. He is one of the better guards I have seen that understands how to change speeds. He has an elite burst and first step and then will finish with a nice layup package. He has a knack for creating contact in the lane and getting fouled or scoring it. He is an incredible passer with his left or right hand and is a stud off the pick and roll. He has a nice looking 3pt shot and can pull-up as well. What impressed me the most about him was his defense. He is a true ball hawk collecting steals in bunches, blocking shots and always helping with his supreme quickness and high IQ.
Devon Arlington Devon Arlington 6'3" | PG San Marcos | 2022 State CA-S San Marcos (Gamepoint 16 Elite)
-Another true PG with size who sees plays developing quickly. He keeps his dribble alive amongst pressure. He finds players with his left or right hand. He hesitates to get passed his defender and will get you on his hip and find a player for a dime or score it. He can pull-up from mid to the 3pt line but is probably best off the catch. His left hand is just as good as his right hand dribbling the ball, which is usually a sign of the top ball handlers.
Otto Landrum Otto Landrum 6'8" | PF Torrey Pines | 2022 State CA-S Torrey Pines (Gamepoint 16 Elite)
-Stronger 4-man who has a live body running the floor with nice athleticism. He can face-up and hit the 3 or from mid-range and has a polished hook shot with his right hand. His best trait by a lot is his rebounding. He can dominate on both sides of the court and grab rebounds in and out of his area.
LJ Glover C 6’10 Balboa Prep (Supreme Court)
-A strong 5-man has that Dwight Howard type of perfect body/frame with super long arms. He rebounds and blocks shots in his area and seems to jump on a trampoline as he dunks the ball way above the rim. He has a mini hook shot and can create a little deep inside but is fundamentally raw still. His hands are fine and runs the floor swiftly.
Alpha Chibambe Alpha Chibambe 6'4" | SF JSerra | 2022 CA-S J Serra (Prime 17 Elite)
-One of the more explosive above the rim dunkers on the West Coast. He has an incredible body/length and is a quick twitch athlete to dunk over or through traffic. His ball skills are just starting to kick in with catch 3’s and pull-ups from mid-range. He cleans the glass with the best of them and is an incredible shot blocker on the weak side seemingly coming out of nowhere.
Vincent Berlucchi Vincent Berlucchi 6'7" | SF La Costa Canyon | 2022 State CA-S La Costa Canyon (Gamepoint 16 Elite)
-A top-notch shooter with size is getting more fluid and handling the ball better. He grabs rebounds out of area and will crash the glass for an offensive rebound despite being a little thinner. He can shoot it consistently and is sneaky athletic to throw it down. He gets the ball out of his hand so quickly and releases from the 3pt line. He will make his money with his shooting but he is improving the other little things.
Damian Ruiz Damian Ruiz 6'2" | SG Linfield Christian | 2022 State CA-S Murrieta Valley (Gamepoint Supreme 17)
-One of the top shooters has some serious range. He has a quick release and every tournament I have seen him, he has produced. His ball skills keep improving and he is taking the ball to the basket better. His catch-3 makes his game go, but as he adds other elements to his game, like Berlucchi, he will be more attractive to college coaches.
